Health Assessment and Promotion
This course focuses on the complete health assessment, the nursing process, and its relationship to the prevention and early detection of disease in clients across the life span. This course introduces processes of health assessment: interviewing, history-taking, and physical assessment. Dominant models, theories and perspectives are used to explain health behavior are considered in relation to evidence-based health promotion and health education strategies. Students are also expected to identif
Quantum Transport: Atom to Transistor
The development of "nanotechnology" has made it possible to engineer materials and devices on a length scale as small as several nanometers (atomic distances are ~ 0.1 nm). The properties of such "nanostructures" cannot be described in terms of macroscopic parameters like mobility and diffusion coefficient and a microscopic or atomistic viewpoint is called for. The purpose of this course is to convey the conceptual framework that underlies this microscopic theory of matter which developed in cou

PLoS Medicine is an international, multidisciplinary medical journal that publishes outstanding human studies that substantially enhance the understanding of human health and disease. PLoS Medicine aims to promote translation of basic research into clinical investigation, and of clinical evidence into practice. PLoS Medicine encourages papers that cross disciplines.
Domuztepe is a large (20 hectares) site, dating to the Halaf period of the 6th millennium BC. It has extensive prehistoric architectural, burial, and occupational remains. The site also has evidence of Roman and Medieval occupation, including a cemetery dating to the 9th-10th centuries AD and an Early Medieval building with thick plaster mortar walls. Joint excavations led by Elizabeth Carter of the University of California, Los Angeles and Stuart Campbell of the University of Manchester have be
Remote engineering implies a new strategy of assessment?
When we spoken about remote engineering as a new methodology used in the cyberspace with the final goal of the teaching/learning improvement and cost sharing, we are obliged to approach all of the process sides. Assessment is one of these sides and there is considered the most powerful tool for illustration, in the qualitative and quantitative ways, the learners responds at educational objectives offered by the remote engineering learning environment. In the present paper the authors have the in
Case It! - case-study learning integrating molecular biology computer simulations and international
For introducing a framework for collaborative case-based learning in molecular biology using interactive computer simulations and web-based "poster sessions" for students via Internet conferencing.
The Disappearance of the Maya
Discover why after 600 years of existence the Maya just ceases to be. Some evidence shows it might have been an invasion or possibly some sort of catastrophic event. Learn more at In Search of History. Run time 03:27.
Antibody-protein interactions: benchmark datasets and prediction tools evaluation
Background The ability to predict antibody binding sites (aka antigenic determinants or B-cell epitopes) for a given protein is a precursor to new vaccine design and diagnostics. Among the various methods of B-cell epitope identification X-ray crystallography is one of the most reliable methods. Using these experimental data computational methods exist for B-cell epitope prediction. As the number of structures of antibody-protein complexes grows, further interest in prediction methods using 3D s
Climate Modeling Program
The research-based Arctic Climate Modeling Program (ACMP) is funded by NSF ITEST. Curriculum based resources were designed with input from 21 scientists from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute. Resources include K-12 inquiry-based classroom lessons, a student network for observing arctic weather, digital lectures, and an interactive multimedia learning system (on DVD).
ICT and adult literacy, numeracy and ESOL
This project set out to obtain a picture of present teaching practice in the use of ICT in adult literacy, numeracy and ESOL within formal provision.,Research report for NRDC
Technical Infrastructure: The WebReports site
The WebReports website allows children to create text-based and interactive content that is accessible on line and to comment on each others work, thereby being provided with opportunities to collaboratively build knowledge around a range of different learning domains. In this document we first summarise our key findings. We then provide an account of the evolution of the system during the three years of the project, giving the rationale for our major changes. Finally, we describe the function
Elementary Linear Algebra & Solutions to Elementary Linear Algebra
This book is an introduction to linear algebra, based on lectures given by me over 17 years, in the (now defunct) first year course MP103 at the University of Queensland.
Computerized Physician Order Entry - Drug safety in a Germany university hospital
This German language video demonstrates the result of our research and development: AiDKlinik is an award winning German web-based drug information system with clinical decision support: drug-drug-interactions, dose-adjustment in case of renal insufficiency, notice in pregnancy, allergy alerts and much more. Hope you are inspired and perhaps interested in co-operation or exchange of ideas.
Toxic and Harmful Algal Blooms
These activities, in conjunction with Bigelow Laboratory's “Toxic and Harmful Algal Bloom" web site, will help your students gain a better understanding of toxic and harmful algal blooms. Each module below consists of background content material and related standards-based activities. Each module is independent of the others; however, some background knowledge is required to complete the lessons.
Optional Soil Moisture Sensor Protocol
The purpose of this resource is to measure the water content of soil based on the electrical resistance of soil moisture sensors. Students install soil moisture sensors in holes that are 10 cm, 30 cm, 60 cm, and 90 cm deep. They take daily readings of soil moisture data by connecting a meter to the sensors and using a calibration curve to determine the soil water content at each depth.

Flood Frequency and Risk Assessment
Students calculate recurrence intervals for various degrees of flooding on a portion of the Des Moines River in Iowa, based on historical data. Then they plot these calculations on a flood frequency curve. Combining flood frequency data with a topographic map of the region, students do a risk assessment for the surrounding community. This webpage includes teaching notes and tips and downloadable teaching materials.
9.10 Cognitive Neuroscience (MIT)
This course explores the cognitive and neural processes that support attention, vision, language, motor control, navigation, and memory. It introduces basic neuroanatomy, functional imaging techniques, and behavioral measures of cognition, and discusses methods by which inferences about the brain bases of cognition are made. We consider evidence from patients with neurological diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Balint's syndrome, amnesia, and focal lesions
