都市施設の免震設計
A variety of seismic response modification technologies are effectively used to mitigate damage of urban infrastructures during a significant earthquake. Seismic isolation is widely adopted for bridges. Isolation of underground structures from the surrounding soft soils is often used to mitigate the response. Various damper technologies are used in not only standard bridges but also long-span bridges. Rocking isolation is attracting increased interest. Emphasis of this lecture will be placed on
光画像工学
情報処理で利用される光学の知識として,ディジタル画像処理と光の干渉・回折や結像理論の関係について述べるとともに,映像機器,光計測,医用画像等の分野において,これらの理論がどのように利用されているかを紹介する。
Based on the knowledge of the diffraction and interference of light, optical imaging theory, and two-dimensional Fourier transform, the fundamentals of optical imaging systems and digita
A Policy on Leadership
Ted Kelly walks a Sloan audience through the process of turning around a failing company. His formula? Develop two key things: a fact based analytical organization, and great management teams that value people. It's the dynamic combination of the two that have put Liberty Mutual in position it is today, a $31 billion com
Rusnano: Fostering Nanotechnology Innovation in Russia
In both lecture format and conversation with Sloan Senior Lecturer Noubar Afeyan, RUSNANO CEO Anatoly Chubais presents an ambitious plan to create Russia’s Nanotechnology Center—a $10 billion, entrepreneurial ecosystem that incorporates education, research and business incubation. Noting that a plan of this depth also r
Education Nation: Six Leading Edges of Innovation in Our Schools
The daily news is full of stories about failing schools, as well as those undergoing miraculous rescues. But there are also schools that have devised innovative and constructive practices that are worth studying and emulating, according to Milton Chen of The George Lucas Educational Foundation. The Foundation has been documenting n
Applied Humanities: Transforming Humanities Education
In the first of four panels celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Comparative Media Studies (CMS) program at MIT, panelists reflect on the wide range of projects and media studies offspring that have emerged from this innovative program.
Major CMS themes include the development of community, creation of a deeper unders
Nanoscale Engineering for High Performance Solar Cells
How much energy does it take to turn on a lightbulb? Way too much in the U.S., where 22% of all electricity gets channeled into illuminating homes, businesses and thoroughfares. Vladimir Bulovic wants to end the exorbitant use of power for lighting, and simultaneously brighten our lives more pleasantly, with the applicati
What’s New at the MIT Center for Future Civic Media?
Based on this roster of speakers, the MIT Center for Future Civic Media exists in a constant state of productive ferment, if not adrenaline rush. In a series of brief, timed talks, 13 (!) researchers describe projects to help communities leverage self-knowledge into useful change or even transformation.

Computational Models of Basal Ganglia Function
As a mathematical engineer, Kenji Doya approaches the goal of describing the most intricate brain mechanisms from a computational perspective. He constructs models of reinforcement learning involving the networked structures of the basal ganglia. His efforts are captured and expressed quantitatively as probabilities, regress
Monitoring Dopamine Release During Reward Learning
In the process of learning, we “sometimes make more deliberative choices, and sometimes make more visceral ones,” says Paul Phillips. These are “semantic terms we intuitively know,” and scientists have become well-versed in creating tasks for animals and humans that demonstrate how these different kinds of lea
3 Sharing information
School governors need to be involved in the monitoring and evaluation of primary schools. But what areas should you be monitoring and how can you ensure that monitoring is effective. This unit will help you assess these matters and also look at the kind of evidence you should be sourcing, and how that evidence should be evaluated.

5.2 Conclusions
This work-based unit encourages early years practitioners to think about the values and principles underpinning how they work with other professionals. It explores beliefs about teamwork, examines frameworks for professional communication and concludes with identifying possible changes in practice.
6.5 Treating behavioural symptoms
Most of us have a very vague and narrow concept of what autism is, based mainly on such stereotypes as Dustin Hoffman's character in the film Rain Man. In this unit you will discover that there is a wide spectrum of disorders associated with autism, and an equally wide range of approaches to diagnosis and treatment.
