There were war crimes committed and there are accounts of some former soviets retelling what they did. There is footage of the Soviet parade celebrating victory. There is reference to Stalin's attitude towards army leaders who were popular. Most of them had to suffer their popularity. Stalin's rule was harsh.

In this story, a young woman holds her newborn son and sings to him lovingly, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." The story continues on through the entire life of this family. This reading of the story is done by Robert Munsch himself, with some guitar picking in the background.
