Supporting a Learner Community with Software Agents
This paper describes a multi- agent approach that aims at supporting learners involved in a collective activity. We consider pedagogical situations where students have to explicitly define the articulation of their collective work and then achieve the different tasks they have defined. Our objective is to support these students by taking some of these tasks in charge whilst making them work out such organisation features. For this purpose, we propose to consider that the group of students forms

Making Change Visible
This site documents the changes made in one fifteen-minute reading/writing activity in first grade over one entire school year. The site shows the revisions necessary to create an effective learning experience for all students and provides examples of the development of students' work. There are also excerpts from Hurley's own journal, her audio commentary, and a video tour of her classroom, and her reflections on the change process as a whole.
Science in Focus: Energy
Interview with Dr. Les Kaufman. Potential energy. Dominos, food ordering, food chain, cashew, metaphors.,The interviewee uses a lighter to light some cashew nuts on fire. A small rotor is placed over the flames and it begins to turn. The interviewee explains that it is actually sunshine that fell on the cashew tree in Belize that is turning the rotor. The cashews are burned, heat is released, since hot air is lighter than cold air, it rises and makes the rotor spin.

This course is designed to acquaint you with topics in mechanics and classical electricity and magnetism. The course covers two semesters. The first semester is devoted to Newtonian mechanics including: kinematics, laws of motion, work and energy, systems of particles, momentum, circular motion, oscillations, and gravitation. The second semester discusses the t
Biology
The Biology course is a first-year course in biology at the high school level. The course emphasizes a multi-representational approach to algebra, with concepts, results, and problems being expressed graphically, analytically, and verbally. The course uses four themes to organize important concepts throughout the course: science, technology, and society; evolution; the relationship between structure and function; and science as a process.

Private Universe Project in Mathematics: Workshop 2. Are You Convinced?
Proof making is one of the key ideas in mathematics. Looking at teachers and students grappling with the same probability problem, we see how two kinds of proofproof by cases and proof by inductionnaturally grow out of the need to justify and convince others.,25 min. Private Universe Project in Mathematics: Workshop 4: Thinking Like a Mathematician
What does a mathematician do? What does it mean to think like a mathematician? This program parallels what a mathematician does in real life with the creative thinking of students.,How a Mathematician Approaches Problems - Fern Hunt, a mathematician at the National Institute for Standards and Technology, is seen as she collaborates with colleagues to solve difficult technical problems. Using the metaphor of the childrens game Towers of Hanoi, she explains her approach to solving problems. 15 m
Learning and teaching with educational technologies.
This chapter considers what we have learned about learning and teaching with educational technologies over the past several decades. While there are compelling data and arguments on the positive effects of these tools, there are also well-documented difficulties with implementing such innovations. The social contexts of the uses of technology are crucial to understanding how technology may influence teaching and learning. The classroom influences, in particular the teacher, are seminal.
