The J.M. White was built in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in 1878, by the Howard Steamboat Company. It was the 276th boat built by the Howards and considered to be their "crowning effort." The ship was destroyed by fired in 1886.

Adding and subtracting rational expressions is similar to adding fractions.
