Save the Children reports that the number of children living in severe poverty in the UK has increased to 1.7 million, which is an increase of 260,000 since 2004. Commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the pilot was launched in June 2007 to respond to the continuing challenge of raising educational achievement.
