3.3 Emotions and judgements

As I suggested above, I am adopting Martha Nussbaum's view of emotions put forward in her dialogue ‘Emotions as judgements of value’ (Nussbaum, 1998). In the introduction she writes: ‘When you put a position in the mouth of a real person, especially the person you love you have to make it real’.

Wine tasting
Taste and smell are closely linked. Wine tastings are popular events that people go to to taste several different wines. If someone who has a stuffy nose goes to a wine tasting, they would have a hard time tasting the wine in general and would not be able to distinguish between the wines. This is because the nose and mouth are connected at the back of the throat and not being able to smell effects how well you can taste food.
