Preventing hereditary cancers associated with BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations
By: BernardFriedenson nheritance of a BRCA1/2 defect predicts such high breast cancer risks that prevention has not been widely studied. Hereditary BRCA1/2 gene mutations can cause cancer by impairing protective responses to some carcinogens. BRCA deficiencies amplify cancer risks from such opportunistic carcinogens. Some hereditary cancers might be preventable by compensating for the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations.

Rational Exponent Rules
This video explains the rules for rational exponents. The rules for multiplying and dividing exponents apply to rational exponents as well; however the operations will be slightly more complicated because of the fractions. Some basic rational exponent rules apply for standard operations. When multiplying exponents, we add them. When dividing exponents, we subtract them. When raising an exponent to an exponent, we multiply them. If the problem has root symbols, we ch
Simplifying Radicals Using Rational Exponents
This video explains how to simplify roots that are either greater than four or have a term raised to a large number by rewriting the problem using rational exponents. Remember that every root can be written as a fraction, with the denominator indicating the root's power. When simplifying radicals, since a power to a power multiplies the exponents, the problem is simplified by multiplying all the exponents together. (1:44)
Simplifying Radicals Using Rational Exponents - Problem 1 of 2
This video is a continuation and provides an example problem that demonstrates how to simplify roots that have a term raised to a large number by using rational exponents to rewrite the problem. (1:23)
Attention to Scaling
In this video segment from Cyberchase, the CyberSquad analyzes the bar graph data showing the number of bugs in each room in the Cybrary. After comparing their bar graph to the one created by Hacker, the CyberSquad realizes that the issue may be a difference in scale. This segment is the second of three segments. Check out “Inventing Bar Graphs” to see how the CyberSquad created their bar graph. Watch “The Power of the Whole Picture” to see how they explain the

30. Climate Sensitivity and Human Population
The Atmosphere, the Ocean and Environmental Change (GG 140)
Climate sensitivity is defined as either the temperature change resulting from a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration or the temperature change resulting from a 1W/m2 increase in radiative forcing. There are several different climate sensitivities that take into account different feedbacks in the climate system. The simplest climate sensitivity is black body sensitivity, which does not account for any feedbacks but gi
