On June 25, 2005, SMU's Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility hosted a panel discussion on America's immigration policy, its flaws and faults, loopholes and exploits, and impact on American life from its increase. Taking part in the discussion were Canadian Sen. Hugh Segal; Doris Meissner, former commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service; former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson; Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Ernest Derbez; and U.S. Rep. Barney Frank.
