References 1.8.1 What happens next? The next ten years are likely to be momentous for the history of Europe. However, in the same way that no social scientist was able to predict the collapse of the Soviet order, it is pointless to speculate on possible but improbable scenarios. At this point it is only possible to project toward the future on the basis of the existing parameters; the more accurate and detailed our knowledge of the present trends is, the more likely our forecasts are to have some success. We can see from the account on the previous page that human understanding of the universe has changed significantly over time. The social and political climate in which scientists work has always had a profound influence on what can and cannot be said, done, published or even postulated as worthy of further investigation. (You could undertake a similar study of the debates on hu 5.4 A brief history of scientific revolutions We now go on to look at the history and traditions of scientific discovery. As an early years practitioner, you will find this survey useful in helping you to challenge the prevailing perception of science as ‘absolute truth’. What we call science was once regarded as ‘magic’, ‘alchemy’ or ‘conjuring’. Such knowledge was viewed as ‘black magic’ and feared as a satanic art (Woolley, 2002). In part this may have been because, in the Middle Ages 2.3 ‘English’ as a school subject In official UK curricula, language appears as a curriculum subject under a range of labels. In all four UK countries – England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales – the curricula for the 3–5 years age range (ACCAC, 2000a; DENI, 1997; QCA/DfEE, 2000; SCCC, 1999) include the word ‘language’ in the subject title. In the formal school curriculum, the subject is known as ‘English’ or ‘English Language’ (ACCAC, 2000b; CCEA, 2004; DfEE/QCA, 1999a; SOED, 1991). Wale 3.7 Ascribed identity So far we have been concerned with ways in which we define ourselves. How other people or society at large might define you could be different from the way you define yourself. This points to an important distinction between ‘self identity’ or ‘identification’, which you have just considered, and ‘ascribed identity’, which we turn to next. Ascribed identities can be thought of as the identities other people, or society, might impose on you. This video is a power point presentation which defines homophones and shows numerous examples with corresponding illustrations. The video concludes with slides which give students practice with using homophones correctly. The video does not include audio, but slides progress slowly giving teacher time to discuss each one. This capstone course is a group design project involving integration of nuclear physics, particle transport, control, heat transfer, safety, instrumentation, materials, environmental impact, and economic optimization. It provides opportunities to synthesize knowledge acquired in nuclear and non-nuclear subjects and apply this knowledge to practical problems of current interest in nuclear applications design. Each year,
Examines traditional forms of East Asian culture (including literature, art, performance, food, and religion) as well as contemporary forms of popular culture (film, pop music, karaoke, and manga). Covers China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, with an emphasis on China. Attention given to women's culture. The influence and presence of Asian cultural expressions in the US are also considered. Use made of resources in the Boston area, including the MFA, the Children's Museum, and the Sackler
Students will enjoy this cute animated video filled with funny critters as they learn about adverbs. Adverbs do what we say---how, when, where, to what extent, under what condition. There are lots of examples given. This is a great resource to help introduce and/or review parts of speech in the classroom. (3:57)

Abstract: The cobordism hypothesis establishes a powerful relationship between extended topological field theories taking values in a symmetric monoidal higher category and objects in that higher category with various kinds of duality.
In this setting an extended topological field theory is a higher categorical extension of the Atiyah-Segal axioms which allows for topological bordisms to be decomposed along submanifolds of arbitrary c
