A Methodological Framework for Project-based Collaborative Learning in a Networked Environment
In this work we present a new way to use existing technology in a real learning context. We investigate and propose a scenario based on collaborative work of virtual groups of students developing a software project. Our intent is to promote learning through collaborative implementation of a project in shared workspaces. This raises several important issues that concern virtual group formation techniques, group regulation and role-playing by students. Other important aspects are related to the pe
Imagine... a new generation of Logo : programmable pictures
In 2000 we completed the development of a new generation of Logo environments containing a radical combination of the direct manipulation interface and rich interactive programming language. The “Imagine” environment will be released by Pearson Education, see http://www.logo.com.
Enabling Technologies for future learning scenarios: The Semantic Grid for Human Learning
In this paper, starting from the limitations and constrains of traditional human learning approaches, we outline new suitable approaches to education and training in future knowledge based society. In our vision, learning and teaching are no longer standalone activities but complex, conversational and experiential-based processes implying collaboration, direct experience, mutual trust and shared interests. We identify characteristics of the environments suitable for these processes, and we compa
How To Use GRID Technology for Building Next Generation Learning Environments
Grid technologies promise to improve the way we think about e-learning allow-ing wide-scale learning resources sharing in heterogeneous and geographi-cally distributed environments consenting, in this way, the implementation of distributed learning spaces where different organizations and individuals are able to cooperate in pursuing similar and complementary learning and training objectives. But is the e-learning ready for this evolution? In this paper we try, starting from an existing e-learni
DIOGENE: A service Oriented Virtual Organisation for e-Learning
In this paper we present the main results of the DIOGENE project where the characteristics of Virtual Organisation for providing learning services has been identified and implemented using state of the art Web Services technologies. Moreover, we present, a possible migration path towards the Grid emphasising the advantages coming from the adoption of this technology.

Between arithmetic and algebra : a space for the spreadsheet ? Contribution to an instrumental appro
In this research work, we have a didactical look on the integration of a computer tool into mathematics teaching: the spreadsheet. We have related research about spreadsheet to an instrumental approach perceived as essential to analyze the questions of technological integration. This approach allowed us to extend to this technology the theoretical framework of instrumentation. These theoretical elements are being used in the analysis of the professional resources and the teaching practices, in o
Grounding is not shared understanding : distinguishing grounding at an utterance and knowledge leve
This paper argues that for the study and facilitation of collaborative learning, existing theories of grounding such as that of Clark and Shaefer [5] cannot be applied without adjustments. When comparing collaborative learning and conversation, four dimensions can be identified where grounding at a knowledge level differs from the grounding at an utterance level. Firstly, the indirect access and the existence of a range of manifest meanings, poses the need for a notion of ‘groundedness'. Second
Knowledge, the keystone of TEL design
This talk outlines the arguments supporting the claim that knowledge is the keystone of the design of Technology enhanced learning (TEL) environments. First, I consider the meaning we could attach to knowledge and knowing, and I introduce the notion of “conception”. Second, I explore how far the problématique of validation is central in our research. And to conclude, I introduce a characterisation of conceptions, which could help in addressing the problem of TEL design at a theoretical level.
Design of adaptive feedback in a web educational system
This paper presents our interdisciplinary approach for the design of a technology-based learning environment for orthopaedic surgery. We present how we designed a part of this environment. This part is in relation to the web environment. The key idea is to produce an intelligent feedback in relation to the learner's activity. The didactical analysis of teaching and learning in the workplace gives a framework to build the computational representation of knowledge. This analysis is shown within th
Analyse et prise en compte des contraintes didactiques et informatiques dans la conception et le dé
This paper shows the didactical and computational constraints in the design of software for mathematical proof in geometry: Cabri-Euclide. The earliest constraint is to produce software for mathematical proof without has the previous solutions concerning the problem. Cabri-Euclide is a microworld, Thus, the essential is that the system have to verify a local coherence, and not to designate a global automatic deduction.
