Zoom into Maps
Maps help us make sense of our world. A sampling of the Library of Congress Geography and Map Division’s 4.5 million treasures has been digitized and is available in Map Collections: 1500 - 2003. This activity introduces historical maps from the American Memory collections. A graphic organizer, for analysis and note taking, and a set of guiding questions for each type of map have been provided.
Analyzing a Map: What are maps and what do they do? What common characteristics do they have? Most m

Function Notation
This video explains that function notation is a way to write functions that are easy to read and understand. Functions have dependent and independent variables, and when we use function notation the independent variable is commonly x, and the dependent variable is F(x). In order to write a relation or equation using function notation, we first determine whether the relation is a function. (2:02)

Caught: Krugman's Shifting Arguments It's not newsworthy when Paul Krugman contradicts himself. However, in two recent blog posts on the varying economic fortunes of US states, Krugman's about-face was so complete and so fast that I just have to share. At the outset I should note that Paul Krugman is a very clever, careful guy. It's extremely rare when Author(s):

Exterior Angles of a Polygon
This video explains how, in a polygon, an exterior angle is formed by a side and an extension of an adjacent side. Exterior angles of a polygon have several unique properties. The sum of exterior angles in a polygon is always equal to 360 degrees. Therefore, for all equiangular polygons, the measure of one exterior angle is equal to 360 divided by the number of sides in the polygon. (3:39)
Determining Whether a Relation is a Function
Understanding relations (defined as a set of inputs and corresponding outputs) is an important step to learning what makes a function. This video clip explains that a function is a specific relation, and determining whether a relation is a function is a skill necessary for knowing what we can graph. Determining whether a relation is a function involves making sure that for every input there is only one output. (3:53)
