Ocean acidification threatens global shellfish stocks
Aug. 6 - Global shellfish populations are under increasing pressure brought about by ocean acidification. Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey say that oysters, mussels and crabs are finding it more difficult to develop their shells, making them vulnerable to predators and an overall decline that could impact other parts of the ecosystem. Jim Drury reports.
First gene therapy treatment approved in Europe
The first gene therapy drug approval given by European regulators is potentially good news for sufferers of LPLD, a rare syndrome which prevents their body from breaking down fat. The decision to allow Dutch biotech company uniQure to produce a gene therapy for the condition opens the way for further developments in gene therapy treatments. Jim Drury reports.
