Academic Use of Digital Resources: Disciplinary Differences and the Issue of Progression
This paper examines the use of digital resources by academics in UK Higher education. The explosive growth of the Internet and in particular the Web has led to a growth in speculation about networked and e-learning (Steeples and Jones 2003, Brown and Duguid 2000). Increasingly researchers have become aware of the ways the university resists such changes and provides a 'resourceful constraint' to the changes surrounding the introduction of networked learning (Brown and Duguid 2000, Cornford 2002)
Exploring the mathematics of motion through construction and collaboration.
In this paper we give a detailed account of the design principles and construction of activities designed for learning about the relationships between position, velocity and acceleration, and corresponding kinematics graphs. Our approach is model-based, that is, it focuses attention on the idea that students constructed their own models – in the form of programs – to formalise and thus extend their existing knowledge. In these activities, students controlled the movement of objects in a prog
Improving access to education via satellites in Africa: A primer (an overview of the opportunities a
This Primer was commissioned by Imfundo:Partnership in IT and Education. It was written by Mathy Vanbuel of ATiT, Belgium (http://www.atit.be) and was first published online at http://www.imfundo.org in 2001. This edition is an up-dated version commissioned by Imfundo and written by Mathy Vanbuel and published online in October 2003. Its objective is to provide an overview of the opportunities afforded by developments in satellite technology in meeting educational and development needs especiall
Pea Soup Ponds
In this activity, students will learn how water can be polluted by algal blooms. They will grow algae with different concentrations of fertilizer or nutrients and analyze their results as environmental engineers working to protect a local water resource.
State of the art on Interaction and Collaboration Analysis
The document focuses on students-machine or students-students' interactions analysis that could support students & teachers, when students work in stand-alone mode or in collaborative technology based learning environments. The document concerns the State of the art on the interaction analysis dimensions and approaches that are already applied. The appropriateness of these approaches is related to the learning environments features, the user's profile, the learning activities, and the context of

Where the Rubber Meets the Road: Why Chemomechanical Design of Materials is Critical to Sustainable
Our conversations on sustainable transportation typically begin with a review of vehicle efficiencies, and end with the characteristics of fuel, energy sources, and life cycle. In a remarkably novel approach to sustainable transportation, Krystyn Van Vliet discusses how other things matter too- namely the materials
The Legend of the Lost Time Capsule
Somewhere on Kent State University's campus is a 1960 time capsule bearing the memories and stories of yesteryear just waiting to be uncovered — at least that's what some say. While KSU continues to search for the old time capsule, the University is now preparing to bury a new Centennial Celebration time capsule...to be opened in 2060.

11.479J Water and Sanitation Infrastructure in Developing Countries (MIT)
This course deals with the principles of infrastructure planning in developing countries, with a focus on appropriate and sustainable technologies for water and sanitation. It also incorporates technical, socio-cultural, public health, and economic factors into the planning and design of water and sanitation systems. Upon completion, students will be able to plan simple, yet reliable, water supply and sanitation systems for developing countries that are compatible with local customs and availabl
