Kindergarten Readiness Skills: Print Awareness
In this video, learn about print awareness and how to teach children about print awareness in preparation for Kindergarten. This includes pointing to words as they are read, pointing out punctuation at the end of sentences, and reading the title and author of the book aloud while showing where these things are located on the cover of a book. Exploring Radiometric Dating with Dice
In this lab, students use dice to simulate radioactive decay. Students create a standard decay curve for a fictional element, calculate the half-life of this element, and, using the information their graph, "date" rocks that contain the new element. The use of dice has some advantages over similar exercises because the half-life is not immediately obvious to students and they will need to experimentally determine it. Learning goals, context for use, teaching tips, materials, assessment tips and
Using Melting Ice to Teach Radiometric Dating
In this activity, introductory geology students are challenged to a Sherlock Holmes-style mystery in which they construct their own decay curves of melting ice to determine time-zero. In the process, the analogies to radiometric dating and some elementary thermodynamics are discussed. This website outlines teaching notes and tips, provides a list of necessary and suggested materials, and has additional information about the source of the activity.

You practice your pronunciation and speaking skills in relation to arranging to meet a friend in your free time.
Radiometric Dating
This activity leads students through derivations of the equations associated with radiometric dating: the radioactive decay equation, the half-life equation and the age equation. After the equations have been derived, students are asked to apply them to geologic applications. This activity is appropriate for lower division undergraduates. Learning goals, context for use, teaching tips, materials, assessment tips and related resources are provided.
Urban Design Skills: Observing, Interpreting, and Representing the City, Fall 2004
An introduction to the methods of recording, evaluating, and communicating about the urban environment. Through visual observation, field analysis, measurements, interviews, and other means, students learn to draw on their senses and develop their ability to deduce, conclude, question, and test conclusions about how the environment is used and valued. Through the use of representational tools such as drawing, photographing, computer modeling and desktop publishing, students communicate what is o

Historical Rivalry
Despite its 14-year lead, many don't know that Jamestown was settled before Plymouth. James Axtell's article, "Historical Rivalry," explores the reasons why.

Criminal violence in Cambodia: An historical perspective
Empirical studies and theoretical analyses of long-term trends in criminal violence have been done in western countries but rarely in other parts of the world. The research conducted by Professor Broadhurst and Dr Bouhours attempts to fill this gap through an examination of the evolution of criminal violence in Cambodia from the start of the 20th century to the present. However, different sources and methods of criminal data recording were used between 1900 and 2008. The diversity of the sources

Week 02 Lecture: Innovative Regulation and Tutorial Facilitation Skills
This week, Neil Gunningham will provide a guest lecture on mechanisms for coercing, or encouraging change, through environmental policy instruments, and the role that the policy instrument can have in environmental governance. Geoff Mortimer will then spend the second hour of the tutorial facilitating student learning on how to facilitate in preparation for the tutorial facilitation assessment task.
