Erien strives to include and manage class discussions in science learning and wants to increase her students' higher-level thinking skills.,The teacher assigns roles for the students in a "town meeting" as they plan an old age home to be built on the wetlands area. They have roles as businesspeople and naturalists as they do the planning. They make diagrams of their plan and present them to the class in a town meeting format. The class gets to ask questions and they must defend their decisions.
