An apple
Objects appear to be certain colors because of reflection and absorbance. Light is made up of different wavelengths that our eyes detect and convert into colors. The apple looks green because it reflects the wavelengths that correspond to the color we see as green. The apple absorbs all other wavelengths of light.

Journey to the Bottom of the Sea
This fun Web site is part of OLogy, where kids can collect virtual trading cards and create projects with them. Here, they learn about how living in the water differs from living on land. 8 Multiple plate collisions and the end of the Iapetus Ocean
Some of Britain’s most dramatic scenery is to be found in the Scottish Highlands. The sight of mighty Ben Nevis, the desolate plateau of the Cairngorms, or the imposing landscapes of Glen Coe can unleash the call of the wild in all of us. Although these landforms were largely carved by glacial activity that ended some 10,000 years ago, the rocks themselves tell of a much older history. Saturday Night on the Range: Rural Life in World War I Era Montana
We often like to imagine rural life in the past as timeless, "traditional," and in some way simpler and more authentic. Power and the illusion of control Architects and Engineers Skylab: A Home Above Our Home Planet
Niro Sivanathan's latest research investigates why power creates the illusion of control over uncontrollable situations, perhaps leading to some of the risky decisions that contributed to the global financial crisis
Students explore the interface between architecture and engineering. In the associated hands-on activity, students act as both architects and engineers by designing and building a small parking garage.
