The 10th Masters Expo took place on Thursday 30 September. Over 30 student projects were on display throughout the ground floor of Old Broadcasting House. The projects included work from students studying masters in the areas of music, media and computing.
The Expo allowed postgraduate students to display the work they had completed as part of their final major project, the largest component of the masters course. MSc Sound and Music for Interactive Games student, Samir Graba, found the day ver

Ahead of the digital environments expansion which follows the principles of the web 2.0, one can notice a growing opening for user's participation. The proposal of this research is to reflect on how this scenario of participation is strengthening a social structure capable of actively acting not only in the production of digital content, but also in the form of this content presentation. From a survey of cases and a theoretical review, this paper aims to analyze two different types of user?s inf
This paper presents a specification of a Local Housing Strategy Decision Support System (LHS-DSS) (Conceptual and Physical model design). Emphasis throughout the design process is laid on the techniques that provide housing planners with accurate rapid assistance during the preparation process of local housing strategy. Relevant knowledge (descriptive, procedural, reasoning) and data about each step of the process, options for each situation as it arises, and a record of decisions made with unde

This PowerPoint presentation explores student diversity and internationalisation. It is aimed at those working with students in HE. It covers ALT implications, global perspectives and working with disability.
Our taster sessions give students the chance to develop and build on the knowledge and understanding of a particular writing form. It's also an opportunity for you to develop the independent practice skills crucial to a professional writer and an opportunity to develop writing industry contacts. All MA Professional Writing students spend time exploring different forms of writing before deciding which area they wish to specialise. The package was written in 1996. Radio immuno assay (RIA) is a technique for measuring concentrations of antigens. Although better techniques have subsequently been developed from it, understanding RIA forms the basis for understanding these derivatives. RIA belongs to the family of competition assays which are widely used in science, medicine and related industries to measure the concentrations of biologically active molecules. This package introduces the concepts of RIA and will be useful to a
Organic chemistry is important in many areas of industry and in the field of pharmaceuticals. In this module you will explore some of the key aspects of organic chemistry in the context of the design and delivery of drugs. This brings together issues of fundamental research, industrial scaling up of processes, environmental impact and patent law.
There is now a greater interest in the environment than ever before and we face concerns about the environmental impacts of almost every aspect of our daily lives. Water, soil, air and the biological environment can all be changed dramatically by the activities of industrial societies like our own, not least through mechanisms which are controlled by essentially geological processes. Waste disposal, contamination of land by industry, the impacts of mining, water pollution and even air quality (t
Teaching Heterodox Economics Concepts is written by Andrew Mearman of the University of the West of England, Bristol, and is a guide to using heterodox approaches in undergraduate economics teaching. The guide offers three potential approaches: enriching an orthodox programme, teaching a heterodox module and the parallel perspectives approach (teaching heterodox and orthodox concepts side by side). The guide also includes sections on assessment strategies, case studies and resources, including l
This is an Engineering Ethics case study from the IDEA CETL. The scenario, which examines the ethical issues around working for the defence industry, is aimed at students who have some experience of ethics. It raises issues about defence; ethics of war; conscience and integrity. It is recommended that this be taught to students at level 3 or 4 due to the sensitive nature of the subject and the fact that the issues addressed are relevant to those students about to enter work. The planned teaching
Machining is a shaping technique that is widely used in industry. Machining by chip removal can be characterised by the action of a cutting tool that allows a part both to be cut into specific dimensions and given a particular surface finish within a range of given tolerance values. Aluminium alloy is machined in various industrial sectors, including aeronautical, automotive and moulding industries.
