The Impact of mobile learning
Phase one of MoLeNET (2007/08) involved 75 colleges and 18 schools, approximately 10,000 learners and 2,000 staff, in 32mobile learning projects. The Learning and Skills Council provided funding for h...
Lichens on a burnt tree from a forest
Lichens are not plants, but are a collection of millions of photosynthetic microorganisms and fungi. Lichens grow on rocks and rotting logs and trees. Fungi provide structure and algae provide food for the lichen.
Praying mantis holding on to a tree limb
Praying mantids are from the same group as crickets, roaches, and grasshoppers. They also have two pairs of wings, but they are not considered flight insects. They have a head, thorax, and very long abdomen.
Team Up!
Students explore the physical and psychological effect of stress and tension on human beings. They develop their observing, thinking, writing and teamwork skills by working on a group art project and reporting about it. They learn about the stages of group formation, group dynamics and team member roles that make for effective teams. In the process, they discover how collective action can foster a sense of community support, which can alleviate personal feelings of stress and tension. Note: The
A Mini World
As students learn about the creation of biodomes, they are introduced to the steps of the engineering design process, including guidelines for brainstorming. Students learn how engineers are involved in the design and construction of biodomes and use brainstorming to come up with ideas for possible biodome designs. This lesson is part of a series of six lessons in which students use their growing understanding of various environments and the engineering design process, to design and create their
How Predictable!
Students follow weather forecasts to gauge their accuracy and produce a weather report for the class. They develop skills of observation, recording and reporting.
Energy forms and states demonstrations
Demonstrations are used to explain the concepts of energy forms (sound, chemical, radiant (light), electrical, atomic (nuclear), mechanical, thermal (heat)) and states (potential, kinetic)
Nuts and Bolts
In this activity, an array of nuts and bolts, of distinctly different sizes, are lined up on the table. The child first matches the nut to the bolt, then screws the nut on.
The NOAA POES Satellite Detects Record Particle Flows into the Earths Upper Atmosphere
This set of still images from the NOAA-POES satellite are derived from measurements by particle detectors in low Earth orbit. The data are sampled along the orbit track and then interpolated in time and position for the rest of the polar region. This interpolation is responsible for the curved block-shaped artifacts in the images.

PediNeuroLogic Exam: Developmental Anatomy - Brain Growth
The newborn brain weighs 400 grams. At one year of age the brain weighs 1,000 grams. By 2 years of age the brain has reached 80 percent of its adult size. By 18 years of age the brain has reached its adult weight of 1400 grams. A neuroscience tutorial focusing on those aspects of the pediatric neurological examination that are unique to the child's nervous system, with an emphasis on important neurodevelopmental milestones.
Andrew Carnegie (2:11)
Andrew Carnegie was an immigrant from Scotland, and worked as a child at a button factory and taught himself to be a telegraph operator. He realized that iron and steel were the future and so he started to build his empire in that area. This video is a brief biography, but does not tell about his harsh treatment of union workers and others. It does stress his donations, but does not tell about how he earned his money.
5.3 Vibrating string: standing waves on a string
How do different instruments produce the sounds we classify as music? How do we decide whether something – a piano, a vacuum cleaner – is actually a musical instrument? In this unit we investigate the way vibrations and sound waves are harnessed to create music.
5.2 Vibrating string: speed of wave propagation
How do different instruments produce the sounds we classify as music? How do we decide whether something – a piano, a vacuum cleaner – is actually a musical instrument? In this unit we investigate the way vibrations and sound waves are harnessed to create music.
10 User research techniques: observing users
Designed products surround us all and range from bus tickets to buildings. This unit focuses firmly on usability and the increasingly important phenomenon of people-centred design. It aims to inform consumers of design (i.e., all of us) about this crucial characteristic of design. The unit is derived from the Open University course T211 on Design and Designing, but as well as stimulating interest in areas of concern for producers of design it might also provide an introduction to engineering, ma
5.7.2 Elimination of pathogens through solar disinfection
Without it we are dead! Water is essential, but what processes must it go through to become fit for human consumption? This unit will guide you through the continuous cycling of water between land, open water surfaces and the sea before moving on to an overview of the water treatment and supply process.

AppFabric.tv - ServiceBus HTTP / REST API Recently the ServiceBus team released some great new support for Queues and Topics, allowing you to access queues via a client library as well as HTTP. In this episode, I'm joined by Will Perry, a tester on the ServiceBus team, who shows us how you can use the HTTP API with ServiceBus queues. Ron Jacobs
