Simon Fraser University education professor Kieran Egan's book, The Future of Education: Re-imagining Our Schools from the Ground Up (University Press, 2008) won a 2011 Outstanding Book Award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). In this video, he discusses his upcoming book, Learning in Depth, which suggests a simple innovation that can transform schooling.

The video also helps explain the symbolism used by Hawthorne. Great insights into the meanings of various themes used. A great video to develop a discussion about how writers create ideas for readers to think about.

Charles Dickens: A Biography
This five minute video is about Charles Dickens and is an animation.
His childhood provoked him to work hard for what he wanted, and he became a journalist. He traveled to Boston in 1842 with his wife, and searched for weird inspirations for his writings. This is an excellent overview of his life and inspirations and his demise.
Mark Twain: A Biography of Samuel Clemens
This is a two hour plus video about the life and times of Mark Twain, Samuel Clemens. It is done through interviews that provide insights about why he used age and race relations through the writings. The video includes a trip through his museum and call in questions about his writing. Teachers are asked when they teach his writings which makes this video of value to teachers considering teaching Twain's writings.
James Fenimore Cooper
This two and a half hour video features interviews with experts that explain the influence of the late 18th and early 19th century frontier and Native-American relations on James Fenimore Cooper.
