Supporting teachers when diagnosing their students in algebra
In this paper we will describe our current work on the Lingot project. We
will focus on the description of a software called « Pépite », the objective of which is
to help teachers diagnose their students' algebra competencies. Then we will show
how different uses of Pepite by teachers lead us to define several types of diagnosis in
order to fit better various users' needs.
Educational Knowledge Based Environment
In this paper a knowledge based environment is represented which facilitates easy creation and preparation of wide range of educational software. The heart of the environment is the knowledge representation tool providing a hybrid knowledge representation formalism combining frames, production rules and logic. The environment is built on the basis of the logic programming language Prolog.
Design Issues of a Distance Learning Course on Business on the Internet
The paper presents the main design issues of a distance learning course on Business on the Internet. The instructional design is based on a learner centered instructional stratedy allowing learners get opportunity to construct their own knowledge while solving real business problems and transfer their knowledge to other learners. They learn autonomously taking the responsibility for their learning and following their individual cognitive styles, interests, preferences. The learners have access t
A First Step Mapping IMS Learning Design and Moodle
Mapping the specification IMS Learning Design and the Course Management
System Moodle is a logical step forward on interoperability between eLearning systems and
specifications in order to increase the best acceptance of the specifications into the widespread
world of the eLearning systems and to ensure the standardization of the outputs from the

A note on organizational learning and knowledge sharing in the context of communities of practice
The knowledge management (KM) literature emphasizes the impact of human factors forsuccessful implementation of KM within the organization. Isolated initiatives for promoting learning organization and team collaboration, without taking consideration of the knowledge sharing limitations and constraints can defeat further development of KM culture. As an effective instrument for knowledge sharing, communities of practice (CoP) are appearing to overcome these constraints and to foster human collabo
Futurelab: The potential of open source approaches for education
Free, Libre, Open Source Software (FLOSS) refers to any software distributed under a licence that allows users to change or share the software source code. Futurelab's interest in this area stems from the belief that FLOSS provides an example of peer-production which is driven by collaborative, social modes of interaction and knowledge exchange. This paper discusses some of the potential ways in which the approaches that characterise FLOSS might be applied in educational contexts.,Research repor
Literature Review in Languages, Technologies and Learning
There is no one best way to learn a
foreign language, nor a single optimal
set of teaching materials. This is because
the learners will vary both in how they
learn and what they want and need to
learn. Good teaching materials may,
therefore, be produced according to a
number of different approaches to
language description, different
interpretations of the theory of language
learning, and according to different
approaches to the process of teaching.,A NESTA FutureLab Series - report 1
Interdisciplinary approach for the design of a learning environment
This paper presents our interdisciplinary approach for the design of a technology-based learning environment for orthopaedic surgery. We present how the didactical analysis of teaching and learning in workplace gives a framework to build the computational representation of knowledge. This analysis is shown within the context of the apprenticeship of concepts of anatomy and orthopaedic surgery.
ICT Competences Acquisition using the Concorde e-Learning Platform
This communication presents some of the final results obtained in the frame of the EC funded Leonardo da Vinci pilot project with the title "Acquisition of Complementary Competencies through Open and Distance Education" (CONCORDE) and it complements other dissemination papers. Intensive case studies for practice across the foundation stage
This paper will provide an introductory overview of the EPPE methodology and findings and focus upon the particular effects of specific teaching and learning practices in pre-schools.
Where settings view educational and social development as complementary and equal in importance, children make better all round progress. Freely chosen play activities often provided the best opportunities for adults to extend children’s thinking, but it seems that a balance between child-initiated play and the
Informal learning in the workplace
This paper focuses mainly on theoretical frameworks for understanding and investigating informal learning in the workplace, which have been developed through a series of large and small scale projects. The main conclusions are included but readers are referred to other publications for more detailed accounts of individual projects. Two types of framework are discussed. The first group seek to deconstruct the “key concepts” of informal learning, learning from experience, tacit knowledge, tran
