Front Foot Elevated DB Step-Up w/ knee drive
Teaching:
• Start with foot on box
• Keep DB's at sides
Coaching:
• Lower body in control until back foot touches ground
• Drive through hip to stand up
• Drive knee up and toe up
Common Errors:
• Athlete steps up in two motions rather than one
• Athlete shifts weight onto front toe
• Athlete pushes off rear foot to stand up
PB Roll-outs
Teaching:
• Start in bridge position with forearms on physioball
Coaching:
• Keeping a straight line from your head to your toes roll the physioball away from your body
• Keep back flat and core tight
• Return to start position and repeat
Common Errors:
• Posture is lost
• Hips are flexed
• Head is not neutral

Quadruped Straight Leg Hip Extension
Teaching:
• Start in quadruped position with hands under shoulders and knees under hips
• Keep toes dorsiflexed and head neutral
Coaching:
• Keep back flat and core tight
• Keeping toes dorsiflexed and core engaged kick leg straight until fully extended
• Engage glute of straightened leg
Common Errors:
• Posture is lost
• Flexion or extension of lumbar spine
• Head is not neutral
Bridge w/ Leg Lift
Teaching:
• Start in prone position on forearms
• Keep hips off ground head neutral toes dorsiflexed and core tight
Coaching:
• Without moving hips lift one leg by squeezing glute
• Alternate legs
• Keep back flat and core tight
Common Errors:
• Posture is lost
• Hips rotate flex or extend
• Head is not neutral
Glute Bridge
Teaching:
• Start in supine position with knees bent and heels on ground
• Lift toes up and keep them up
Coaching:
• Keep knees in line with ankles and drive hips up by squeezing glutes
• Keep core tight and hold for prescribed amount of time
Common Errors:
• Athlete is using hamstrings rather than glutes
• Hips are too high or too low
• Core is not engaged

Dr. Ohno-Machado is a Professor of Medicine and the founding chief of the Division of Biomedical Informatics at UCSD. Two years ago, her research group transitioned to UCSD from Harvard Medical School. They continue to work on biomedical pattern recognition from large data sets, statistical learning, and privacy technology. She is the Principal Investigator of SCANNER.
