With inflation outpacing wage increases along with the economic downturn in recent years, the need and demand for affordable housing units has skyrocketed. In the last decade development firms have increasingly tried to provide affordable housing units, but the obstacle is how much funding and incentives do they receive for these types of units? This video explains that function notation is a way to write functions that are easy to read and understand. Functions have dependent and independent variables, and when we use function notation the independent variable is commonly x, and the dependent variable is F(x). In order to write a relation or equation using function notation, we first determine whether the relation is a function. (2:02)
Daniel Carr, of Dickinson, N.D., won the 2011 Tommie Award, an 80-year-old honor that has been given annually to a St. Thomas senior who exemplifies the ideals of the university.

The central point of this course is to provide a physical basis that links the structure of metals with their properties. With this understanding in hand, the concepts of alloy design and microstructural engineering are also discussed, linking processing and thermodynamics to the structure and properties of metals.
Understanding relations (defined as a set of inputs and corresponding outputs) is an important step to learning what makes a function. This video clip explains that a function is a specific relation, and determining whether a relation is a function is a skill necessary for knowing what we can graph. Determining whether a relation is a function involves making sure that for every input there is only one output. (3:53)
In order to figure out where to start when solving equations with a variable on both sides of the equals sign, we will need some useful methods and practice. There are many methods we use to solve for the variable when it appears in more than one place. This video explains how to combine like terms when solving multi-step equations. (00:41)
