Aerosols from 2003 Southern California Fires (WMS)
A devastating series of fires occurred in Southern California during October 2003. The effects of these fires were detectable from space. The Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) instrument measures aerosol particles (microscopic airborne dust and smoke). TOMS was able to detect aerosols from these fires moving West over the Pacific Ocean and East over the continental United States.

Observe river erosion creating waterfalls and chasms
In this resource about river erosion, students are presented with an animation and accompanying text. The resource explains and reveals how, over time, moving water can erode the rock in a river's bed and banks. The opening scenario is that of a small waterfall with a plunge pool at the bottom of the fall. Eventually, the action of the water as it churns gravel and sand about at the foot of the fall causes the plunge pool to grow, the rock above it to collapse, and the waterfall to extend. Movie

This is a field collection of 700 sound recordings, field notes, dust jackets, and other manuscripts documenting a three-month, 6,502-mile trip through the southern U.S. The recordings include ballads, blues, children's songs, cowboy songs, fiddle tunes, field hollers, lullabies, play-party songs, religious dramas, spirituals, and work songs.
