Winter Lecture Series - 2010: Achieving a tobacco-free New Zealand by 2020 - why it must happen and
The Māori Affairs Select Committee’s investigation into the tobacco industry has invigorated the debate about becoming tobacco-free, and placed New Zealand at the forefront internationally of reducing the impact of tobacco on health in a similar manner to our nuclear-free stance in the 1980s. Professor Edwards investigates the need for a tobacco-free New Zealand and explores the best options for achieving the 2020 vision.

What is ‘e-commerce’? This unit will look at typical application areas including the internet, supply chain management and online auctions. It will also help you to understand the underlying technologies used to implement e-commerce applications before looking at some of the problems that can be encountered when developing distributed e-commerce systems.
5 Summary of unit
This unit looks at the methods that have been developed by organisms for the uptake, transport and storage of iron: a process made more complicated by the insolubility of its oxides and hydroxides. You will examine iron storage in mammals, including humans, is achieved by ferritin, which stores iron as a hydrated iron (III) oxide – an example of biomineralisation.
Oregon State Alums Changing the World
Several OSU alums talk about what they are doing now and how in their own way they are making the world a better place.
Accessing and Investigating Population Data
In this activity, students investigate population projections from 1990-2100 using data from the U.S. Census Bureau Web. Using the five specific population pyramids, students investigate population projection data for the United States over a 110-year period. They examine how the population data is distributed over time and explain what factors might contribute to these trends. An activity sheet and thoughtful questions, included in the lesson plan, guide the class investigation.
Ocean Systems
This resource guide from the Middle School Portal 2 project, written specifically for teachers, provides links to exemplary resources including background information, lessons, career information, and related national science education standards. This online resource guide focuses on earth/physical science including volcanic island formation and tsunamis; life science concepts including ocean ecosystems, food webs, and biodiversity; science in personal and social perspectives including pollution
The Data and Story Library
An online library of datafiles and stories that illustrate the use of basic statistics methods. DASL is designed to help teachers locate and identify datafiles for teaching. The archive contains two types of files: stories and datafiles. Each story applies a particular statistical method to a set of data. Each datafile has one or more associated stories. Stories can be searched by real-world topic explored, or by statistical method used.

Observe the origins of some ocean floor sediments
This Earth science resource illustrates the sources of ocean sedimentation along coasts, on the ocean floor, and at hydrothermal vents. Students click on these ocean locations to see examples of the formation of hydrogenous, biogenous, and terrigenous sediments. For each sediment type, the resource provides two enlargeable images. When enlarged, each image is accompanied by descriptive text. For example, the hydrogenous sediments are represented by a close-up view of ferromanganese nodules, as w
