4.6 Summary

  1. RNA chains play fundamentally important roles within the cell, including genetic information transfer (mRNA), components of the translation machinery (rRNA in ribosomes and tRNAs) and as regulatory small RNAs.

  2. The tertiary structure of RNA is determined by interactions that maximise base pairing. Despite instability and isolation problems, the tertiary structures of several major cellular RNAs are known.

  3. Transfer RNA struct

3.2.5 Group development

Next on the list of priorities in the functioning of groups is the process of group development. One popular conception of the way in which groups 'gel' and become effective was first suggested by Tuckman (1965) and then extended by Tuckman and Jensen (1977). Tuckman originally identified four stages in this development process, which he named 'forming', 'storming', 'norming' and 'performing'. These stages (see Author(s): The Open University

3.4.2 Radiological aspects

Environmental radiation comes from a range of naturally occurring and anthropogenic sources, with the former estimated to contribute more than 98% of the radiation dose experienced by people (excluding medical exposure). Any exposure to radiation can lead to cancer, and the greater the exposure, the greater the risk.

The contribution that drinking water makes to radiation intake is very small, and is due largely to naturally occurring radionuclides (isotopes of an element which are unst

15.348 Doctoral Seminar in Research Methods II (MIT)
A large proportion of contemporary research on organizations, strategy and management relies on quantitative research methods. This course is designed to provide an introduction to some of the most commonly used quantitative techniques, including logit/probit models, count models, event history models, and pooled cross-section techniques.

4.2 The structure of tRNA

Transfer RNAs are small and compact molecules. Comparisons of the base sequences of many tRNAs led to the predicted four-leaf clover structure shown in Figure 18a, which follows the rule of maximising base-pairing interactions. This structure was largely confirmed by analysis with single-strand nucleases.

Two of the four main arms of the tRNA molecule are named according to their function, i.e. binding to the mRNA trinucleotide that encodes a specific amino acid (anticodon arm),

Introduction

This course asks the reader to consider the experience of grief and bereavement and in particular the extent to which grieving people need professional help. The course considers the evidence for the effects of grief and the extent to which current ways of responding are helpful.

How terrorism has invaded German law - Professor Thomas Weigend
Professor Thomas Weigend (University of Cologne). The threat of terrorism hit Germany in two waves, the first in the 1970s and 1980s, the second in the general context of 11 Sept., 2001. Both waves have led to extensive legislation in substantive and procedural criminal law. The 1970s saw the introduction of the new criminal offence of being a member of a terrorist organisation as well as ad hoc legislation cutting back on the rights of the defence. More recently, the powers of the State to use

21W.784 Becoming Digital: Writing about Media Change (MIT)
"Becoming Digital" traces the change in practice, theory and possibility as mechanical and chemical media are augmented or supplanted by digital media. These changes will be grounded in a semester length study of "reports from the front." These reports, found and introduced by students throughout the semester, are the material produced by and about soldiers and civilians on the battlefield from the introduction of wet photography during the Crimean and Civil Wars to contempor

Observations on Collaborative Design and Multimedia Usage in Virtual Design Studio
The virtual design studio (VDS) points to a new way of practicing and teaching architectural design. As a new phenomenon, little research has been done to evaluate design collaboration and multimedia usage in a distributed workplace like the virtual design studio. Our research provides empirical data on how students actually use multiple media during architectural collaborative design.
