When American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon, even reporters inside the building weren’t sure what was happening. This is one of the first reports by a journalist inside the Pentagon the morning of 9/11. (2:26)
North American Alliances
By the mid-eighteenth century, the face of North America was changing. The British soldiers, officials, and colonists were moving west from the Atlantic coast and starting to cross into the Ohio River Valley. The Spanish occupied a vast region extending from the Gulf of California, across the desert, and along the Gulf Coast to Florida. Thomas Jefferson pulls off the land deal of the millennium when he buys 800,000 square miles from the French, stretching from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. This short video explains what a value it was, and how it came to be sold. Of notes is the fact that the video explains that the land did not belong to the French in the first place. It belonged to the Native Americans. A map for the students would help them understand the size of the purchase.
