"Two Lovers", 1906, by Marcus Stone (1840-1921) Two Lovers 1906,
MY Love is of a birth as rare
As 'tis, for object, strange and high ;
It was begotten by Despair,
Upon Impossibility.
Magnanimous Despair alone
Could show me so divine a thing,
Where feeble hope could ne'er have flown,
But vainly flapped its tinsel wing.
And yet I quickly might arrive
Where my extended soul is fixed ;
But Fate does iron wedges drive,

"my father moved through dooms of love" by E E Cummings (poetry reading)
Cummings wrote this poem after his father was killed when his car was hit by a train at a crossing in 1926. The picture is just an illustration for atmosphere, not connected with the incident or even from the right period in history. More info here:

To pick just one phrase, "dooms o

"Sonnet 147 - My love is as a fever.." by William Shakespeare (poetry reading)
A frightening Halloween poem from Bill the Bard.
It calls to mind a situation that is all-too real. It is perhaps the most frightening thing of all - the discovery that you have been deceived, that your beloved never loved you. While you were at work labouring to provide a good life for your loved ones, your wife was amusing herself with her back-door man: the local, handsome ne'e-do-well who never did an honest day's work in his life. Now you must continue to work hard to support them bot

Planting the seeds of success in the desert: Lipton's tea factory in Dubai
For many people, tea manufacturing conjures up images of tea pickers in Asia or Africa, with tea leaves being plucked at plantations and brought to a nearby factory for processing. Unilever's decision to build a tea factory in the desert of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is therefore not what one would expect to see, especially as it involves a major multinational company.

What Technology Wants
Kevin Kelly will be speaking about his latest book, "What Technology Wants." This provocative book introduces a brand-new view of technology. It suggests that technology as a whole is not just a jumble of wires and metal but a living, evolving organism that has its own unconscious needs and tendencies. Kelly looks out through the eyes of this global technological system to discover "what it wants." Kelly uses vivid examples from the past to trace technology's long course,
