The Effect of Active Learning Exercises on Academic Performance and Nonintellectual Learning Factors
The current study examined the effect of an active learning-based teaching method on nonintellectual learning dispositions in students enrolled in general psychology. Expected outcomes included improvement in student nonintellectual learning factors, as well as improvement in student academic performance. Two graduate student instructors and four courses of general psychology were recruited for participation. SAT scores, course grades, student ratings of teachers, and measures of nonintellectual
Climate Change and Health
ABSTRACT: Climate change has multiple direct and indirect consequences for human health. Heat waves affect health directly and are projected to take an increasing toll in developed and underdeveloped nations. The 2003 summer heatwave in Europe -- an event six standard deviations from the mean -- led to 21-35,000 excess deaths in five nations, extensive wildfires, crop failures, nuclear plant shutdowns and melted 10% of the Alpine glacial mass. This event and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 demonstrate

3 The Efficient Markets Hypothesis (EMH) The classic statements of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis (or EMH for short) are to be found in Roberts (1967) and Fama (1970). An ‘efficient’ market is defined as a market where there are large numbers of rational, profit ‘maximisers’ actively competing, with each trying to predict future market values of individual securities, and where important current information is almost freely available to al 2010 MSU President's Report: What is the origin of the cosmos? All Means All: Classrooms that Work for Advanced Learners Risks and Benefits of Genetic Testing - Wylie Burke, MD, PhD
Michigan State University Distinguished Professor of chemistry David Morrissey explains how he and a team of researchers are developing an electromagnetic "mousetrap" that will snag and quickly extract rare isotopes from high-speed particle collisions that can then be studied. Their findings will explain the fundamentals of how our planet and universe work—and just may reveal the secrets of the Big Bang.
The strategies for designing appropriate class activities to meet the needs of advanced learners are introduced.,Volume 11, Number 1
"Too much information? Dealing with Incidental Findings in Genetic Testing". Dr. Burke discusses the different uses of genetic testing in clinical care, and considers the challenges and opportunities pose by future tests in based on new genomic technology. These include highly efficient detection of genetic changes associated with health and drug response, but also the management of large amounts of information, including many incidental findings and results with uncertain clinical significanc
