Teacher role I am writing my dissertaion using this as my title: Has the role of the teacher changed? Or: What is the role of the teacher in the 21st century? I havent been able to find many journals on this, however I have found some really old books, concerned with the role of the teacher. Its quite broad however I would like to focus on Every Child Matters and how different roles have changed from early teaching to now.

Parental Involvement in Children’s Education
This survey (2004) was commissioned by the DfES, following an earlier survey in 2001. The purpose was to assess the impact of measures taken to increase parental involvement in education and to identify an evidence base for future policy development. It is a very detailed investigation of levels of parental involvement in their children’s education, based on a telephone survey of over 2,000 parents and carers of children between the ages of 5-16, conducted in early 2004.

The Millennium Cohort Study has published its initial findings from its second sweep of data gathering. One of the key findings is concerned with children's educational development, with the study showing that ‘many children from disadvantaged backgrounds are up to a year behind more privileged youngsters educationally as early as the age of three'.

This project explored the strategy of adding voice files to word documents - primarily lesson plans and schemes of work - in an initial teacher training context. The technique is called Voice over Text (VoT). The purpose was to reveal the thinking behind teaching processes; in this case there was an emphasis on planning. A comprehensive research study on the impact of a School Based Mentoring (SBM) scheme in the United States. The efficacy of this ten year old scheme is compared and contrasted with existing Community Based Mentoring (CBM) schemes (based in clubs and community centres around the US) which have been in operation for the past century. Creating Accurate Science Benchmark Assessments to Inform Instruction
This is a report on American research carried out by The National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing at the University of California. The aim was to write, pilot test and evaluate benchmark assessments in the form of multiple-choice and open-ended questions in four areas of science taught to Grade 5 pupils (equivalent to Year 6 pupils in the UK). It was carried out using practicing teachers and researchers who were experts on science pedagogy and content.
