The Neural Tube Development module answers the following questions: 1. What is the shape of the neural tube when neurulation is complete (i.e. when this animation begins)? What is the neural canal? What is the shape of the neural canal? 2. What are the basal and alar columns? What will they eventually develop into? What is their shape and extent along the neural tube? and their initial position relative to the neural canal? 3. Where along the neural tube are the prosencephalon, mesencephalon, an

This unit introduces the topic of differential equations. The subject is developed without assuming that you have come across it before, but it is taken for granted that you have a basic grounding in calculus. In particular, you will need to have a good grasp of the basic rules for differentiation and integration.
This unit looks at complex numbers. You will learn how they are defined, examine their geometric representation and then move on to looking at the methods for finding the nth roots of complex numbers and the solutions to simple polynominal equations.
This unit examines the area of the brain based learning with a particular focus on the development of the young child's brain and is of particular relevance to those who work with young children. We begin by looking at the structure and functions of the brain, and the impact that sensory deprivation can have on these. We consider the implications of current understandings of brain development for teaching and learning, particularly in an early years setting, and finish by exploring the value of

This interactive article looks at research findings over the past few decades that concludes birds are, in fact, a kind of theropod dinosaur. The article includes the following: An overview explaining how scientists identify and classify new specimens; An introduction to the finding that theropod dinosaurs, like Velociraptor, are more closely related to modern birds than they are to almost any other kind of dinosaur; A detailed answer to the question, What is a theropod? An interactive that allo
This exercise illustrates to introductory level students that Mendelian patterns of inheritance can be studied using biochemical assays as an indication of biochemical phenotypes. Students investigate the pattern of inheritance of aldehyde oxidase in different strains of Drosophila. Using this information, they study progeny from a mating between unknown parents, develop hypotheses about the parental genotypes, and investigate the results using chi-square test. In addition, students determine th
Students in the Harrison School of Pharmacy continue to consider the Objective Structured Clinical Exam to be one of the more difficult exams required in the school.
But next year, the difficulty rises to a new level, with much more at stake than ever before -- graduation.
Since 2005, with the start of a new curriculum, the school has used the OSCE (pronounced "ah-skee") to test students on the objectives covered each semester for three years in the skills lab course, Contemporary Aspects of P
This eight minute video is about some remarkable locations that have been along the way for years and some sketchy events that might have happened on the road trips. Essentially, this is a video diary that helps to show students different aspects of cultural geography and giving them an idea of different parts of the US, for the most part. The home videos can help students see the importance of making their own travel videos.
This module provides the description of what a function is.
Arm traction is done with the baby in the supine position. The wrist is grasped and the arm is pulled until the shoulder is slightly off the mat. There should be some flexion maintained at the elbow. Full extension at the elbow is seen in hypotonia. A neuroscience tutorial focusing on those aspects of the pediatric neurological examination that are unique to the child's nervous system, with an emphasis on important neurodevelopmental milestones.

Tara Aghaloo presented a lecture titled "BMP-2 and Other Growth Factors for Craniofacial Reconstruction" as part of the 36th annual USC Periodontal and Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2011.
Aghaloo is associate professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the UCLA School of Dentistry. She completed her dental training at UMKC, and her OMS residency at UCLA. Subsequently, she completed a Ph.D. in oral biology at UCLA. Her clinical practice focuses on hard and soft tissue augmentation
