Science in the Courtroom: The Woburn Toxic Trial
This Starting Point webpage is a summary of a role-playing resource called Science in the Courtroom: The Woburn Toxic Trial. In this exercise, hydrology students role-play expert witnesses in a mock trial dealing with contamination of groundwater. Students prepare for the role-play by studying the movement of groundwater and the transport of contaminants through computational and map exercises and field trips. For the role-play, the hydrology students work with law students. The hydrologists div

As active recipients of brand messages, they can screen out the irrelevant and the inconvenient. Observing their preferences in this regard can be a source of genuine competitive advantage, as demonstrated in Example 1. 2.1 The response of business For most of human history, our influence on the planet has been small (i.e. sustainable). The waste produced by our presence has traditionally been dealt with by a process of dilution; burying things, or perhaps dumping them in the ocean, was a viable proposition because we were few and the land and the oceans were vast. Mankind was a minor perturbation on the planetary ecosystem. But with change as the ever-present factor, we grew in both numbers and influence. In the last century, the 1.2 Offshoring The premise is straightforward. Given modern telecommunications capability, it matters little where telephone support is based. India, with a large population of English-speaking graduates and low (by Western standards) wage rates is an obvious choice. The significant cost-savings look very attractive to many organisations.

Electric Vehicle (EV) charging is expected to take place primarily in homes in the near-term. But, even today, EV owners would benefit from chargers at office buildings, garages, and public locations, and widely available charging infrastructure might alleviate range anxiety concerns and encourage second-stage adopters to buy EVs. Much of the charging infrastructure that has been deployed is heavily subsidized by the Federal government. Is there a profitable business model for public charging, o
This unit looks at the methods that have been developed by organisms for the uptake, transport and storage of iron: a process made more complicated by the insolubility of its oxides and hydroxides. You will examine iron storage in mammals, including humans, is achieved by ferritin, which stores iron as a hydrated iron (III) oxide – an example of biomineralisation.
