21H.909J People and Other Animals (MIT)
This class provides a historical survey of the ways that people have interacted with their closest animal relatives, for example: hunting, domestication of livestock, exploitation of animal labor, scientific study of animals, display of exotic and performing animals, and pet keeping. Themes include changing ideas about animal agency and intelligence, our moral obligations to animals, and the limits imposed on the use of animals.

18.303 Linear Partial Differential Equations: Analysis and Numerics (MIT)
This course provides students with the basic analytical and computational tools of linear partial differential equations (PDEs) for practical applications in science engineering, including heat/diffusion, wave, and Poisson equations. Analytics emphasize the viewpoint of linear algebra and the analogy with finite matrix problems. Numerics focus on finite-difference and finite-element techniques to reduce PDEs to matrix problems.

18.335J Introduction to Numerical Methods (MIT)
This course offers an advanced introduction to numerical linear algebra. Topics include direct and iterative methods for linear systems, eigenvalue decompositions and QR/SVD factorizations, stability and accuracy of numerical algorithms, the IEEE floating point standard, sparse and structured matrices, preconditioning, linear algebra software. Problem sets require some knowledge of MATLAB®.
18.022 Calculus of Several Variables (MIT)
This is a variation on 18.02 Multivariable Calculus. It covers the same topics as in 18.02, but with more focus on mathematical concepts.
Natural Disasters
Students are introduced to our planet's structure and its dynamic system of natural forces through an examination of the natural hazards of earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, tsunamis, floods and tornados, as well as avalanches, fires, hurricanes and thunderstorms. They see how these natural events become disasters when they impact people, and how engineers help to make people safe from them. Students begin by learning about the structure of the Earth; they create clay models showing the Earth'
Bumps and Bruises
Athletes often wear protective gear to keep themselves safe in contact sports. In this spirit, students follow the steps of engineering design process as they design, build and test protective padding for an egg drop. Many of the design considerations surrounding an egg drop are similar to sports equipment design. Watching the transformation of energy from potential to kinetic, observing the impact and working under material constraints gives students a chance to experience some of the challenge
5.2 Case study 3: Menon poetry The class teacher (Menon, 1999) was keen to develop the sense of a ‘writing community’ early on in the term. In the first few weeks she invited her students to form groups of their own choice, research a poet from a selected list, then plan and carry out a presentation. Students were encouraged to use the internet as part of this research. At such an early stage in the academic year, when getting to kn 4.1 The advantages Turtle Skeleton - Shell Harvard University 2011 Class Day Oration by Tim Lambert Sid the Science Kid, Exploring Measurement, 3.7.1 Averages: finding the middle of a group of numbers 1 Economic function of the entrepreneur Broadly, entrepreneurs have two vital roles to play in the economy (1) to introduce new ideas and (2) to energise business processes. Strictly speaking, the term entrepreneur, which derives from the French words entre (between) and prendre (to take), referred to someone who acted as an intermediary in undertaking to do something. The term was originally used to describe the activities of what today we might call an impresario, a promoter or a deal maker. The powerful and majestic carnivores are the focus of many television documentaries. In this unit we will delve into the lives of these fearsome hunters and explore their physical adaptations and social behaviour. This is the fifth unit in the ‘Studying mammals’ series.
Turtles have a shell for protection against predators. They may hid their head and limbs inside the shell when they feel threatened.
Tim Lambert, Pforzheimer House, delivers an oration at Harvard University's 2011 Class Day ceremony.
The video shows children measuring in the classroom using non standard units of measurement. eg child's body. It is done with cartoons and called "non=standard measurement." Five minutes
You might not realise it, but maths is an essential component of healthcare. In fact, sloppy calculations can have fatal consequences. This unit is a taster of Level 1 course materials for a Foundation Degree in health sciences, and is designed for those contemplating a future in the health services industry.
