WARREN HARDING: A Biography
A five minute view of Harding's life. The narrator might be distracting for some students. Little insights, just facts.

Cosmonauts walk in space
Russian cosmonauts conduct a spacewalk on the International Space Station to prepare the outpost for future assembly work. Katharine Jackson reports.
Data Mining Application in Higher Learning Institutions
One of the biggest challenges that higher learning institutions face today is to improve the quality of managerial decisions. The managerial decision making process becomes more complex as the complexity of educational entities increase. Educational institute seeks more efficient technology to better manage and support decision making procedures or assist them to set new strategies and plan for a better management of the current processes. One way to effectively address the challenges for improv
Virtual plants in high school informatics L-systems
A creation of models is becoming an important part of informatics education besides algorithmization and programming. An appropriate example concerning use of computer science while modelling real world are the L-systems. In the paper we describe a proposal of teaching of plants growth modelling by the L-systems at a high school. Our goal is to help students to understand and try creation of plants model on the computer.
ICT use in school: vision and performance measures
The implementation of ICT in schools requires a vision on ICT use in school, the formulation of clear strategic goals, and the planning and organisation of the use of ICT in school. The pursued goals are those points we want to reach for the learner by setting up ICT use in school. At the same time the pursued goals are the results of using ICT as expected by the stakeholders, being the learner, the teacher, the ICT coordinator, and on an indirect way the parents, the environment and the funding
Le TALN au service de la didactique du français langue étrangère écrit
New text analysis softwares issued from fields of research such as Machine Learning and Natural Languages Processing prove to be relevant tools for the language sciences. Littératron is a new data-processing tool for the automatic extraction of syntactic patterns, designed at LIP6 by Jean-Gabriel Ganascia. Associated with a linear text analyser, it reveals the stylistic peculiarities of a text. We will see that Littératron carries out a linguistic diagnosis of learners if used in language scie
Cowos: A Model of Collective Work Situations to Support Modelling and Simulation Based Approaches of
This paper describes an operational model of collective work situations. This model is rooted in the CHAT theory. It allows creating multi-agent simulations where the agents behaviour is defined in terms that make salient organization issues, and allows building learning situations that focus on making students consider explicitly these issues.

Meanings for Fraction as Number - Measure by Exploring the Number Line
Construction of meanings for fraction as number-measure is studied during the implementation of exploratory tasks concerning comparison and ordering of fractions as well as operations with fractions. 12-year-old students were working collaboratively in groups of two with software that combines graphical and symbolic notation of fractions represented as points on the number line. Fractions as points and segments, ordering fractions as part of kinesthetic activities and abstracting the scaling of
The CoVis Project: Building a Large-Scale Science Education Testbed
This paper describes the construction and research program of the Learning Through Collaborative Visualization (CoVis) Project. a testbed for exploring science education reform with telecommunications technology. The CoVis testbed is contrasted with other forms of cducational research in an "ecolo~yo f paradigms." which argues that testbeds are in fact a new setting for research with different requirements and challenges for the researcher. Two extended examples of telecommunications research ar
Student conference on global warming: a collaborative network-supported ecologically hierarchic geos
A five week global warming curriculum for precollege students has been designed as part of the Learning through Collaborative Visualization Project (Pea, 1993). A collaborative version of the curriculum will be enacted in January, 1996, within twenty classrooms located primarily in Illinois, Michigan, and New Jersey. The primary goals for this curriculum are: A. Forge links between students and the scientific community around a topic of common interest. B. Engage students in scientific investi
Global University System with Globally Collaborative Environmental Peace Gaming Project
The Global University System (GUS) [Utsumi, et al, 2003] is a worldwide initiative to create advanced telecommunications infrastructure for access to educational resources across national and cultural boundaries for global peace. GUS aims to create a worldwide consortium of universities to provide the underdeveloped world with access to 21st Century education via broadband Internet technologies. The aim is to achieve education and healthcare for all, anywhere, anytime and at any pace.
Integrating research teams: the TELMA approach
In the context of the Kaleidoscope Network of Excellence, six European research teams developed a methodology for integrating their research approaches. In this paper we present the methodology, based on a cross experiment, showing how it gave insight to the understanding of each team's research, and on the relationship between theoretical frameworks and experimental research.
Using online role play to teach internet safety awareness
This paper reports on an evaluation of Net-Detectives, a creative online role play activity aimed at 9–12 year olds. Net-Detectives forms part of Kidsmart, an Internet awareness programme aimed at school children. It was evaluated through a multiple method data collection using questionnaire surveys, follow up telephone interviews with teachers and observation in use in three UK schools during the summer term of 2003. All sources of data collected agreed that a number of benefits arise from p
Adaptive learning scenarios for detection of misconceptions about electricity and remediation
Our main objective is to model the knowledge used by learners in order to solve problems about electricity. We are searching means to do a diagnosis about student's activity based on a microworld of electric circuits. Once the diagnosis realized, we try to provide the learner with the most relevant remediation with regard to his/her misconceptions.

Sunset Song was written in the early 1930s and is still one of the best-known and most-debated Scottish novels. In this unit, we discuss whether Sunset Song succeeds as critique of capitalism and whether it has value as a work of literature separate from its propagandistic ambitions.
