Fire Safety for Your Home
This 2:25 minute video offers advice and information on improving fire safety in the home. It has good statistics and would be a good video to show students as it offers insights from the use of candles to checking fire and smoke detectors to checking water heaters.
Cell Phone Spectrophotometer
Instructions and software are provided to allow students to build an inexpensive spectrophotometer, using digital cameras or cell phone cameras as array detectors. Supplementary materials include instructions for high school teachers and laboratory instructions for both high school and college students. Software source code allows customization.
Bragg's Law and Diffraction
This site presents an introduction to Bragg\'s Law of Diffraction, along with how diffraction of x-rays provides information on atoms in crystalline material. An Applet allows the user to vary the wavelength and angle of incidence of radiation to a surface, along with the distance between layers of the material to demonstrate the conditions necessary for constructive interference, or a Bragg\'s condition. The derivation of Braggs law is also explained.
