To counter high post-WWII prices in Auburn, Ala., the veterans formed a food cooperative, which resembled a small country grocery store. Dr. David Grosshans discusses a recent study that shows how proton therapy spares healthy tissue in children with cancer. The study illustrates how proton therapy radiation is able to avoid excess radiation dose to a variety of normal structures while maintaining equal target coverage. This is important for childhood cancers because excess radiation can cause damage to the hippocampus, an area involved in learning and memory.
