In this course, teachers be introduced to thematic learning and cooperative learning techniques. Teachers will have a chance to develop lesson plans with these ideas in mind. You are given practical tools for classroom management and ways in which you can guide students to think about their own process of learning. Genefinding - the basic structure of the course attempts to answer the following questions: 1) What is genefinding? 2) Why do we care? 3) Why is it difficult? What is the challenge? 4) What's being done currently? What are the current methods? 5) How are we doing? Emphasis is placed heavily on computational methods for genefinding with discussion as to how the compliment experimental gene finding methods.

This lesson focuses on vocabulary and currency associated with food, restaurants, and menus. Students conduct research to create an authentic menu with a companion recipe books. The lesson culminates in short presentations and food samples.
How Ironic!
This lesson will introduce students to the concept of irony. Verbal, situational, and dramatic irony will be defined, but the focus of the lesson is situational irony. This lesson can be used prior to teaching longer, more complex short stories that contain situational irony.
