Open Educational Resources Infokit
Open Educational Resources (OERs) are increasingly being made available by Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) institutions. They are resources licensed in a way such that they can be re-used, re-purposed, re-mixed and re-distributed. There are a number of license options for individuals or organisations considering releasing OERs, perhaps the most common being various iterations of the Creative Commons license. This infoKit, as with the whole of the JISC infoNet website, is itself

Normal - Station and Gait Exam - Station Sub-exam - Patient 1
Patient is a female with no known neurological health problems who volunteered to act as a simulated patient in order to demonstrate 'normal' responses to exam techniques. She is merely a reference point for exam procedures and protocols, as well as to denote subtle signs from diagnosed patients.
Principles of Scanning Probe Microscopy
This site offers a beautifully illustrated introduction to the principles of scanning probe microscopy. The text is interspersed with links to additional information, much of it from the Interface Physics Group at Leiden University. There are several included animations and links to picture galleries which illustrate both principles and utilization of scanning probe microscopy. An additional \"links\" page takes the user to sites of research groups involved in ongoing developmental work in su

WebGURU
This site is a wonderful resource for undergraduate researchers and their mentors. Topics covered include research nuts and bolts, funding your science, scientific ethics, lab safety, communicating your science and mentoring issues. The site makes good use of case studies, self-study questions and references on each topic.
Cell Phone Spectrophotometer
Instructions and software are provided to allow students to build an inexpensive spectrophotometer, using digital cameras or cell phone cameras as array detectors. Supplementary materials include instructions for high school teachers and laboratory instructions for both high school and college students. Software source code allows customization.
Introduction to Dynodes
This site is presented as a guided exploration into the operation of a photomultiplier from the first light incidence to the output signal. Questions guide the exploration and allow (sometimes require)the student to speculate on the result before going forward. A careful, patient student will get a thorough introduction to the operation of a dynode and how to bias it.
Receptor Binding Assays
A tutorial on receptor binding assays used in bioanalysis. Both scintillation proximity assays and measurements based on fluorescence polarization are discussed. This page also features a good bibliography on related resources.
UV-visible spectroscopy
This webpage, part of a larger project \"Understanding Chemistry\", provides a solid introduction to UV-vis spectroscopy suitable for use in introductory chemistry and introductory analytical chemistry courses. The UV-vis pages discuss UV-vis light, absorption, Beer\'s law, the double-beam spectrometer, and introduce some standard applications of UV-vis spectroscopy. Explication is clear and thoughtful. Judicious and effective use of graphics. Site is easy to navigate, and the links work.
Kids in the Hall of Planet Earth
This geology Web site for kids, part of the museum's Kids in Our Halls program, was created by high school interns at the Museum. It includes: Kids Interview Kids, in which kids visiting the Hall of Planet Earth are asked geology questions and scientists' answers are given alongside the kids' article that recounts how Dr. Richard Ash survived snake encounters during an expedition to collect meteorites an online challenge in which kids see which standard kitchen items contain rocks and minerals,
Effects of an Active Learning Environment: Teaching Innovations at a Research I Institution
This is a link to a JCE paper (JCE subscription required to access pdf file) describing a study of two instructional formats - passive lecture and a student-centered collaborative learning method that demonstrates the significance of group work in problem solving for a general chemistry course. As such this paper should be of interest to faculty interested in active learning methods.
