This report was commissioned by the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) in Ireland. It is an exploratory study which draws together literature and findings related to characteristics of school attendance by pupils in Irish primary and post-primary schools. It uses a number of data sources, particularly re-working data collected by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and the NEWB.
