The Selective Attention Test uses distraction and misdirection to test student's attention to detail - students think they are counting ball passes, but might miss a key event right before their eyes. Younger and older students practice observation and perception skills, but also learn about the difficulties and fallibility of observational evidence - everything is not always what we first think. In Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, pianist Randy Weston and bassist Ahmed Abdul Malik celebrated with song the revolutions spreading across Africa. In Ghana and South Africa, drummer Guy Warren and vocalist Sathima Bea Benjamin fused local musical forms with the dizzying innovations of modern jazz.
