This is an excerpt of the minimalist composer Phillip Glass's Einstein on the Beach play. The composing technique that became minimalism was influenced by the repetative improvisations of many asian countries including India, Java, and Bali. It is also theorized that it was in reaction to the complexity and constant changes of serialism. Minimalism is know for its limited vocabulary be it rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, or instrumental.
This five minute video provides viewers with images prainted by Albert Bierstadt, a painter best known for his large landscapes of the American West. He was the first artist to record these sites, Bierstadt was the foremost painter of these scenes for the remainder of the 19th century. There isn't any narration in this video, just images of the paintings so the teacher needs to provide insights as to the subject and painter's history.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- More than $4,000 has been raised so far by Cable 8 Productions, the student television group at Washington State University, for two year old Alex Reister of Pullman, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
The donations will be used to buy Reister medical equipment including a wheelchair and a swing to help him develop muscle coordination. Funds will also go toward physical therapy and other medical needs.
