Graphing Equations on the Cartesian Plane: Slope
The lesson teaches students about an important characteristic of lines: their slope. Slope can be determined either in graphical or algebraic form. Slope can also be described as positive, negative, zero, or undefined. Students get an explanation of when and how these different types of slope occur. Finally, students learn how slope relates to parallel and perpendicular lines. When two lines are parallel, they have the same slope and when they are perpendicular their slopes are negative reciproc

Dividing Polynomials Using Synthetic Division
Polynomials can be divided by using either long division or synthetic division to arrive at an answer. This video explains how synthetic division can be used to divide polynomials when the degree in the divisor is equal to 1 and if the coefficient of the variable in the divisor is equal to 1. (3:36)
The decision process in the financial services industry
Munir Nanji is exploring how board members conceptualise independence and project objectivity in order to successfully govern. Findings have led to the next stage of his research, which will look more closely at Asian family-run boards from the Chair's perspective.

The Space For Nature Wildlife Gardening Forum
This informative Space For Nature Wildlife Gardening Forum website was developed for naturalists, horticulturalists and others interested in creating garden habitats for wildlife. The site editor is Richard Burkmar, who received his PhD from University College of Cardiff in avian ecology, and believes "that gardens are an increasingly valuable habitat in real terms for wildlife, and that they are uniquely positioned, as accessible natural spaces, to influence our behaviour and attitudes towards

Construction Technologies: Create the Strongest Bridge
Students work in pairs to create three simple types of model bridges (beam, arch, suspension). They observe quantitatively how the bridges work under load and why engineers use different types of bridges for different places. They also get an idea of the parts needed to build bridges, and their functions. The strength of model bridges is mainly a factor of the quality of materials used, and therefore they do not provide a clear visual representation of tension and compression forces involved. Ye
Comparing Fractions With Unlike Denominators
This video teaches students to compare fractions with unlike denominators. A student demonstrates finding a common denominator in order to compare fractions. The problem is worked on a white board. ( 1:21)

Fish-Friendly Engineering
Students further their understanding of the salmon life cycle and the human structures and actions that aid in the migration of fish around hydroelectric dams by playing an animated PowerPoint game involving a fish that must climb a fish ladder to get over a dam. They first brainstorm their own ideas, and then learn about existing ways engineers have made dams “friendlier” to migrating fish, before being quizzed as part of the game.

Drip, Drop, Drip, Drop
In this activity, Students design an experiment to model a leaky faucet and determine the amount of water wasted due to the leak. Using the data they gather in a table, students graph and write an equation for a line of best fit. They express their results with multiple representations and use the results to make predictions. This activity will build an understanding of variable, the relationship between variables, and generalizing these relationships.
