Earth Exploration Toolbook Chapter: Analyzing Wetlands
The Ramsar Wetlands Data Gateway is a database containing information on protected international wetlands. In this activity, users search the database to find a wetland that they are interested in helping to protect. Using the database search capabilities, users select various wetland characteristics and generate a report on the sites that meet their search criteria. Then, they access an interactive map to view the locations and nearby features of the identified wetland sites. Next, they narrow

Typical points, invariant measures, and dimension for rational maps on the Riemann sphere
We present three original results for the dynamics of rational maps on the Riemann sphere. Using methods from dimension and ergodic theory, we discuss generalized physical measures and prove their existence for hyperbolic and some parabolic rational maps. This shows that there are sets of typical points for these maps having maximal dimension. We then show that for any NCP rational map, the set of non-typical, or divergence, points is also of maximal dimension. Finally, we examine holomorphic fa
WildLinAlg14: More row reduction with parameters
This video explains the second half of row reduction, a basic algorithm in linear algebra used to solve systems of linear equations. Parameters are introduced corresponding to non-leading columns of the augmented matrix of the system. This is the 14th lecture of this course on Linear Algebra given by Assoc Prof N J Wildberger.

3.5 A new life There is a common belief that life begins at the moment of conception, i.e. when a sperm fuses with an egg. This is a step forward from past years, when life was alleged to start at the time of ‘quickening’, i.e. when a woman could feel her fetus moving inside her. However, both these opinions suffer from an underlying falsehood: that life ‘begins’ at all. Life is a continuum; gametes are produced by living parents, and fuse to produce new living individuals, but unfused gametes are n

Introduction to torsion : document transcript
This is a document transcript about Introduction to Torsion HNC in Engineering - Mechanical Science Edexcel Unit: Engineering Science (NQF L4). Torsion or twisting is a common concept in mechanical engineering systems. This section looks at the basic theory associated with torsion and examines some typical examples by calculating the main parameters. Further examples include determination of the torque and power requirements of torsional systems. This open educational resource was released th
