Cube definition and properties
An interactive applet and associated web page that demonstrate the properties of a cube. A 3-D cube is shown in the applet which can be interactively manipulated using the mouse. Research has shown that some younger students have difficulty visualizing the parts of a 3D object that are hidden. To help with this, the student can rotate the cube in any axis simply by dragging it with the mouse. It can also be 'exploded' - where a slider gradually separates the faces to reveal the ones behind. The
Perimeter of a polygon
A web page and interactive applet show how to compute the perimeter of a polygon. A polygon is shown that can be resized by dragging its vertices. As you drag, the perimeter is continuously recalculated. Text on the page explains that the perimeter is the sum of the sides. For those who prefer it, in a formula that is given. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference interactive geometry reference book pr
Perimeter of a rectangle
A web page and interactive applet show how to compute the perimeter of a rectangle. A rectangle is shown that can be resized by dragging its vertices. As you drag, the perimeter is continuously recalculated. Text on the page explains that the perimeter is the sum of the sides. For those who prefer it, in a formula that is given. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference interactive geometry reference boo
Triangle similarity, ratios of area
An interactive applet and associated web page that demonstrate that in similar triangles, the ratio of their areas is the square of the ratio of the sides. As you drag one triangle to resize it, it remains similar to another and the ratios of sides and areas is calculated as you drag. One can be seen to be the square of the other at all times. A slight 'snap-to' effect allows easy selection of integer ratios (2:4 etc). Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector
Triangle similarity, ratios of parts
An interactive applet and associated web page that demonstrate that in similar triangles, ten items are always in the same ratio to each other (perimeter, three sides, three altitudes, three medians). As you drag one triangle to resize it, it remains similar to another and the ratios of sides and medians is calculated as you drag. They can be seen to be the same at all times. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math O
Diagonals of a square
A web page and interactive applet show how to compute the length of the diagonals of a square. A square is shown that can be resized by dragging its vertices. As you drag, the diagonals are continuously recalculated. Text on the page explains calculation. For those who prefer it, in a formula that is given. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference interactive geometry reference book project at http://ww
Inference by Analogy (Archaeology)
Students will use ethnohistoric sources and an archaeological site map to study ethnohistoric analogy. This unit is based on Lesson 2.11 in "Intrigue of the Past: North Carolina's First Peoples", which is part of a national curriculum-development program called "Project Archaeology":
"Oedipus the King" Reader's Theatre
Students will rewrite the Greek tragedy in a modern context in order to review and analyze the plot. This assignment is designed as a final project in a Greek Theatre unit. It is expected that the literature has already been read and analyzed as a class. I have found that this project is an innovative way to review for a unit test on the play and Greek Theatre.
Scientific Inquiry (Archaeology)
This lesson introduces students to scientific inquiry through the use of an activity sheet. This unit is based on Lesson 1.7 in "Intrigue of the Past: North Carolina's First Peoples", which is part of a national curriculum-development program called "Project Archaeology":
History Retold: Berkeley Repertory Theatre's "The People's Temple"
SPARK follows the creation of the documentary theatre project The People's Temple Project from its original conception by David Dower to opening night of play written and directed by Leigh Fondakowski at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. This Educator Guide addresses the history of the Peoples Temple.
Sunlight and the Seasons
Children study seasonal change in sunlight in a global game of hide and seek. Students try to find 10 "mystery classes" hiding around the globe. The amount of sunlight is the central clue. Other clues link to each location's history, geography, culture, and more. Through these interrelated investigations, students discover that sunlight drives all living systems and they learn about the dynamic ecosystem that surrounds and connects them. This project reinforces a key concept: Changing sunlight d
Advanced networking for wireless networks
A review of the OSI/Internet protocol stack with focus on the issues that are critical in wireless network implementation. The unit outlines the effect of every layer in the overall performance of a wireless network.
Sounds of the ABCs
In this project, you will review the sounds of the first 5 letters of the alphabet. After you review the sounds, you will pick two pictures that start with the same sound. Do you know your alphabet?
The Solar System
In this project you will learn about the solar system and will be able to identify basic components of our solar system, including the sun, planets, and Earth's moon.
The Triangular Trade Route
What is the Triangular Trade Route? After completing this project, you should be able to explain the Triangular Trade Route in detail. These details should include the reason for trade, the countries involved, and the main goods that were traded.
Native American Powerpoint Project
For this project students will research a Native American group that played an influential role in Alabama history. The students will then create a powerpoint describing the primary aspects of that group's heritage.
The Cardiovascular System
After completion of this project, you will be able to: 1. Identify the components of blood 2. Describe the function of blood 3. Label a normal human heart. 4. Trace the flow of blood through the human body and the heart.
Project Zero's Studio Thinking Framework: Eight Habits of Mind
Project Zero's mission is to understand and enhance learning, thinking, and creativity in the arts, as well as humanistic and scientific disciplines, at the individual and institutional levels.
Studying the Instrument Shelter
The purpose of this activity is to discover why an instrument shelter is built the way it is. Students construct shelters that have varying properties and place them in the same location or place similar shelters in different locations and compare temperature data taken in each shelter. Students should predict what will happen for each of the different shelter designs or placements and perform the steps of student research. Intended outcomes are that students gain an understanding of GLOBE speci
The Documentary Project for Refugee Youth
The Documentary Project for Refugee Youth is a collaboration between refugee youth, Raeshma Razvi, Global Action Project, the International Rescue Committee and other community organizations and artists in New York City. The Project revolves around a core group of 12 refugee youth living in New York ...
