Developing an effective mentoring program
Formal mentoring programs are increasingly recognized as a means of recruitment and retention in a library setting. An effective mentoring program assists new librarians with diverse backgrounds in their professional growth and benefits organizational culture. In this paper, the authors examine different models of mentoring programs in the library profession and discuss the process of developing a university library mentoring program. This case study explores the mentor’s and mentee’s persp
The consequences of antisocial behavior in older male siblings for younger brothers and sisters
The contribution of younger male and female siblings’ conflict and involvement in deviant activities with their older brothers to younger siblings’ adolescent adjustment problems was examined in the context of parenting. Ineffective parenting during younger siblings’ childhood had no direct effects on adjustment, but facilitated their exposure to older brothers’ deviant peers and activities. The effect of sibling conflict on adjustment was mediated by younger siblings’ co-participation

They shouted "got the bitch..."
On the 23rd October 2002 during a performance of a new Russian romantic musical, Nord Ost, in a Moscow theatre, members of the cast were going through their paces singing and dancing, dressed in military uniform. Another man appeared from the wings, also in military costume, and fired a weapon into the air. The audience at first believed this to be part of the performance. However, it didn’t take long for them to realize that this was not art but real life, and the beginning of what turn

Space between words
After spending such a considerable time working with narratives and type I came across this process of cutting out type to create different depths of field. The columns of a newspaper were it's original inspiration. Obviously, now though, this piece is no longer about the actual words. Instead I was implying that the space between words is where our thoughts take shape.
The listening room : the connecting principle, Newcastle
This proposal is to amplify the dark space beneath the stairs in the Fine Art Department at Newcastle using the principles expanded in my AHRB proposal (http://www.stalk.net/piano/proposal.htm), taking the sounds in the space and allowing people within that space to hear the space in a qualitatively different way over a few days. Various techniques are employed to allow the resonant frequencies of a room to become audible in real time - see Appendix below. This process is modulated by acoustic
"These paintings explore a shifting inner world of unnameable familiarity. Through accumulation of paint a direct physical interaction is exposed, between body and canvas, from the slightest stain to violent application. The visceral, physical qualities of body matter are appropriated through paint as substance. A repeated expulsion of paint fuses layers together into a monstrous hybrid. These forms lure the viewer in through delicate detail. What first appears delicately beautiful is exposed

Antarctic Village - Metisse Flag
By way of calling the Orta Antarctic expedition to an end, the artists staged the first in a series of symbolic football games, ‘Heads or Tails, Tails or Heads’. Meteorologists, paleontologists and geologists from the Marambio Antarctic Base joined the Orta team to play a symbolic ‘All Nation’ match. The Metisse Flag and the Antarctic football shirts, created by the artists make it difficult to identify the adversary. The front and back of the players' shirts are stitched together with d
