“Exercise is a complex behavior that is regulated by a complex system”. In this talk, Prof Noakes seeks to include the brain as a factor in exercise physiology. He starts with the classical teachings in exercise physiology and continues by looking at various models such as the A.V. Hill model and the peripheral model.
“The greatest hurdle is the mental barrier”. This trilogy of lectures was originally presented to the University of Cape Town’s Rugby Team in 2008. The lectures centre around Prof Noakes’ teachings of self belief and team unity as role players in athletic performance.

The people of Ghana didn't want to adopt the Muslim religion, but later on, the desert Arabs invaded their territory and forced them to practice the Muslim religion, or else they would be killed.
Janie is a 39-year-old Caucasian female who initially presented with weakness and L'Hermitte’s phenomena at the age of 35. Initially mistaken as a TIA, MRI of the brain revealed numerous plaques in the white matter suggesting Multiple Sclerosis. Her lumbar puncture initially failed to demonstrate the presence of oligoclonal bands, but since progression of the disease over the past few years bands have developed.

MRI has demonstrated numerous plaques in the bilateral cerebral white matter. She eventually went on to recover from her initial attack but since her second attack has continued to progressively worsen. Her gait and other motor functioning have deteriorated and she is now wheelchair bound.
