Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy
JRSE, published by the American Institute of Physics, is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal covering all areas of renewable and sustainable energy-related fields that apply to the physical science and engineering communities. Content is published online daily, collected into bimonthly issues (6 times a year). As an electronic-only, web-based journal with rapid publication time, JRSE is responsive to the many new developments expected in this field.
Public Archaeology in China Now
In 2006 Peter Ucko and Wang Tao visited more than ten universities in mainland China, in order to meet staff and students in each Department of Archaeology. We interviewed staff and students to find out about their experiences, expectations and ideas regarding the nature and practice of archaeology. In addition, interviews were held with the several directors of provincial institutes of archaeology.
The interviews consisted of semi-structured questioning, and free discussion was encouraged. One
Particles and Waves
Even before the crisis of the atom, there was evidence that light, which was certainly a wave, could sometimes act like a particle. In the new physics, called quantum mechanics, not only does light come in quanta called photons, but electrons and other particles also interfere like waves.

A Virtual Organisation for e-Learning
We present in this paper the results of an European funded project Diogene, finished in October 2004, whose aim has been the design and the development of a distributed e-learning system able to perform several automatic actions such as course customization and information retrieval on the Semantic Web.
The Diogene architecture is based on a network of specialized Organizations each of which has been realized as an independent Web Service.
STyLE-OLM: Interactive Open Learner Modelling
here is a strong argument in Artificial Intelligence in Education which advocates that computer-based learning systems need to adapt to the needs of learners if they are to provide for effective personalised instruction (Self, 1999a). Diagnosing a learner's cognitive capacity is a crucial issue in building adaptive systems. We have explored an interactive open learner modelling (IOLM) approach which conceives diagnosis as an interactive process involving both a computer system and a learner that
2 Legal requirements of health and safety in the UK
Health, safety and risk assessment are of paramount importance both in the laboratory and the field. This unit will help make you more aware of the hazards and risks involved in laboratory and field-based research work, as well as giving you an overview of the legal requirements attached to this work. The unit discusses issues involved in the handling chemical and biological agents, basic safety procedures and common field-work hazards.

The field of active galaxies is recognised as one of increasing importance. But how do we know there are different kinds of galaxy? What are active galaxies? How are they powered? This unit examines the different types of active galaxy and looks at the crucial role of the active galactic nucleus and the energy source at its heart.
