Interpersonal communication in health and social care services is by its nature diverse. As a consequence, achieving good or effective communication – whether between service providers and service users, or among those working in a service – means taking account of diversity, rather than assuming that every interaction will be the same. This unit explores the ways in which difference and diversity impact on the nature of communication in health and social care services.
Blue light surgical tool prevents oral cancer recurrence
Two Simon Fraser University researchers are helping to bring new hope to those with a devastating and deadly form of cancer, thanks to their participation in a new multi-site pan-Canadian surgical study of oral cancer.
During the last five years a hand-held fluorescence visualization (FV) or blue light tool developed at the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) has been proven to prevent oral cancer recurrence by detecting previously unrecognized cancer cells.

Folding pathway of the B1 domain of protein G explored by a multiscale modeling
The understanding of the folding mechanisms of single domain proteins is an essential step in the understanding of protein folding in general. Recently, we developed a mesoscopic CABS protein model which was successfully applied in protein structure prediction, studies of protein thermodynamics and modeling of protein complexes.
