2.5 Position vectors

Finally, we relate the method of specifying points in the plane as an ordered pair of real numbers (that is, via the Cartesian coordinate system) to vectors.

In order to do this, we use those vectors whose starting point is the origin; such vectors are called position vectors. For example, the position vector (2, −1) is the vector shown below.
