The latest Energy Outlook report was released in late December by the Department of Energy, looking at key factors of change over the last year and offers projections of change to 2020. The report contains specific information on energy issues, prices, use, production, and more, including graphs and tables (when applicable) that relate to the nation as well as specific regions.

This is a fun and exciting way for students to review calendar skills. The game can also be used to review skills from other content areas.
Asian, African, or Australian Inventors and Inventions
The lesson integrates both Social Sciences and Language Arts in a research and a creative writing component. The student will further understand inventors or inventions from Asia, Africa, and Australia, the focused continents in the 7th grade Social Sciences curriculum, as well as have the opportunity to develop his/her writing, reading, and oral communication skills. The project also incorporates mathematics with an emphasis on percentages and graphing.
Area of Solids.
Finding area of rectangular solids and cylinders by cutting them into flat pieces and adding the areas.
Area and perimeter unit
This unit will introduce and practice the concepts of area and perimeter. This unit uses resources of Shodor Education Foundation, Inc. Apples on Parade
Children will discover the different varieties of apples after listening to a selected story by describing likenesses and differences of apples, sorting apples, graphing apples, eating apples, and creating apple star trees. This unit can be extended to allow children to cook with apples.
Anthill Number Round-Off
The purpose of this lesson is to give students a visual aid to help them round off numbers to the nearest ten or hundred.
Analyzing Statistics S.S. Europe and Russia
Students will gather statistical information on countries in Europe and Russia from almanacs. The information will be recorded in a chart. Students will then take the information and make line or bar graphs. Students will analyze the information by answering higher level thinking questions.
An Integrated Poetry Unit
My students have always disliked poetry. The different ways in which this lesson approaches poetry and the connection it makes to their "March Madness" studies seems to make poetry more enjoyable, fun, and relevant for my students. In order to integrate with the sixth grade math and Social Sciences teachers, I teach this unit during the ACC tournament to coincide with the "March Madness" unit that is covered in the math classes.
An Average Autumn
This lesson will be a review of skills for calculating mean, mode, median, and range of a set of numbers to be created by the students. It will result in a seasonal display for the classroom or school-wide bulletin board.
"An Apple a Day": Concept of half and simple addition
This is a hands-on lesson which uses apples to introduce the concept of "half" and to teach simple addition. This lesson was taught to a group of 1st grade EC students.
Am I a Square?
Students should discover how their height is related to their arm span. They will learn how to do spatial and visual estimation, use measuring tools, recognize factional parts of an inch, gather data, and organize and create a graph based on their findings.
Algebra For the Real World
Students will solve real world and mathematical problem situations using simple algebraic concepts including variables and open sentences.
Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators/The Numbers Tell LCD
Students will be able to find the Lowest Common Denominator by using prime factors. They will then add the fractions. This method was developed for students who have problems guessing and checking.
ACC Basketball
The students will use ACC basketball statistics to practice the process of converting fractions to decimals then to percents and will learn how to create and edit a spreadsheet. They will then use this spreadsheet to analyze their data. This unit is done during the basketball season which takes approximately 15 weeks from the middle of November to the middle of March. Teachers must have Clarisworks on their computers to open the attachment, which is an example of the spreadsheet.
A Walk Through the Solar System
A practice in scientific notation, measurement, and scale distances, this lesson plan integrates mathematics into the science curriculum.
A Math Story!
This lesson plan is designed to use a basic third grade math fact as a prompt to write and illustrate a math story. A hands on math activity using math manipulatives will serve as the focus and review for this lesson. A writing activity will serve as a conclusion as well as an assessment for understanding.
A Geometric 'Field Trip'
Students conduct a 'field trip' around the school (inside and out) looking for examples of geometric shapes. They record their findings using a digital camera and present their findings in a multimedia presentation.
